Caught on Tape: Cops Beat Up Man in Elevator

Watch the Video

Let this serve as an eye-opener to those of you who tend to assume that police brutality is limited to racial profiling. Dude is a weapons charge suspect, but damn, that attack was clearly unprovoked. Plus, they kept pounding on him even after he was already hugging the ground. Damn shame.

That’s some fucked up shit.

I really wish we had the audio on that.

You’ll note that the suspect attempted to push the cop in the chest when the cop stepped to him after uncuffing him. Whether or not the beatdown would have occurred if the suspect had not put his hands up is one question to consider.

That’s called Standard Operating Procedure, in the informal, cop culture sense.

It reminds me that during and after the Rodney King incident, there seemed to be no discussion of the fact that cops nationwide routinely beat down anyone that they have to chase by car or on foot. Ok, other than OJ Simpson, cause he’s Richie Rich.

Scary shit.

Yeah, you’re right about dude trying to “defend” himself. Still, they could have easily stopped the pounding once he was already down, because he was no longer a threat to them or whatever. It seems like once they start the pounding it’s impossible to stop. Ridiculou.

The audio would have explained a lot. Maybe we would have heard something like:

Suspect: Yo get your hands off me!

Cop: Sir, we’re going to have to observe Standard Operating Procedure on you for pushing us in the chest.

he got Rodney King-ed for sure

6. Clyde Smith Says:

Basically, if you’re not willing to be compliant and submissive, you’re labeled an asshole and then you deserve it, in their eyes.

SOP is generally an unspoken but widely understood form of behavior within cop culture.

Clyde’s side job = undercover cop
