Race has always been and will always be a social construct. The funny thing about this is, it’s not like it’s a hidden fact. It’s well documented in the sciences like bio and sociology.

If all races originated from one race (black), then that would nullify the argument that race exists based on physiological differences. It’s already been proven that genetical racial distinction in itself is a blur.

I feel like kind of a jerk for thinking this, but I think I’ll be happier if Lupe never makes it big. Right now, I feel like I’m part of an exclusive group that feels like I -get- his music more than almost everyone else does. If he makes it big, hits the mainstream… then it’s not special anymore.

Lupe, if you read this, don’t kill me.

5. Rizoh Says:

^LOL. That’s not an unusual school of thought.

6. J To The A.A.P. Says:

^Haha, no it’s not, it’s just unusual when people admit to it like that.

7. J To The A.A.P. Says:

DC, I’m sorry to burst your bubble but Lupe isn’t exactly underground anymore either, the exclusive club has been open for a while now.

8. Rizoh Says:

Yeah, you discover a talented artist. He becomes your favorite rapper. Talented artist blows up, now all the teenyboppers know about him. Talented artist becomes uncool.

Heard that before.

9. DC Says:

J,

True, but it depends on what community you’re talking about. If you’re talking about most big cities, or the internet, sure, Lupe’s not underground at all.

I’m somewhere in the south, not near Atlanta. The music of choice around here is country. People who have heard of Kanye West consider themselves to be “rap fans.” I’ve never had a conversation with anyone here who has heard of Lupe.

So to me — in this area — following him is pretty uncommon.
