Pimp C Apologizes to Atlanta

ugk1.jpg

You know the check writers at Jive had to get on the phone with Pimp C after that Atlanta-bashing episode. (After all, they have an album to sell on August 7th.)

“To all my Atlanta fans & friends, I want to say I apologize for my statement in the Ozone magazine about Atlanta not being the south!! That was bullsh*t statement. Atlanta is and has always been the dirty muthaf***in south!! Chuuch!!”

Here’s the best part of his apology:

“But the rest of what I said about them p***y a** n***as is and always will be the truth.
PS: If you wanna go to war, I will take you to world war 3, b****, at the drop of a dime. If you ridin’ with me, thank you. If you not, f**k you very much…”

Unfortunately, the rest of Pimp C’s statement is not reprintable on a family website like The Rap Up.

Ha! I love how he even seems to be screaming his apology. Besides the weird part about the ATL i can’t say dude had a lot to apologize for though, now let’s get to the album and see if it’s as much fun. The joints that leaked seem promising.

I have a question. And this is gonna sound sarcastic but I’m actually being 100% genuine. Is it OK in hiphop to not maintain the threatening or confrontational demanor or facade?
Because even the people who are not celebrating their “violent past” are still quite confrontational.

So is it a requirement?

@Nashon: Whatchu trynna say dun?!? You betta put ya dukes up if you saying we too confrontational!

On the real, there used to be emcee’s who even had photo’s taken of themselves NOT looking like they were about to bite your head of. There’s been a battle element for a long time so it’s probably more so than with other genres, but there have also been lots of artists with different styles (Biz or Native Tongues for instace). Nowadays the idea’s become more and more widespread that it’s what you gotta do to sell though.

I’m pretty sure the ‘check writers’ at Jive made no such calls and are happy to let Pimp be Pimp. This def. falls into the category of ‘all press is good press’ esp. with a new UGK album (which is pretty amazing by the way) dropping on 8-7-07….

Yeah, I mean I know that in past it was a little different. This thought popped into my head yesterday listening to Digable Planets circa 1989 or so and then Audio two circa 1992.(who I would argue is the most influential group of all time in terms of production style and rhymes gettin’ bitten!)

Digable Planets didn’t really have that persona about themselves but Audio Two kinda did. And they werent even talkin’ gangsta shit (Like NWA was at that time) but they were definitely about the confrontational swag.

This is getting way too long, I’ll just finish by saying that I think battle rap and hip hop beefs are where the greatest songs/lines/flows come from, I’m just wondering if thats necessary to sell or if there is something else to rap about that people would actually listen to.
