What’s in Your Stereo?

g-and-d.jpg
Georgia & Dudley just lost mad street credibility ’cause of that cello

Let me get a couple of things of my chest before I get to my list of Heavy Rotation. Finding Forever (aka Be 2.0 ©O-Dub) was cool, but its replayability value is zero. Ear Drum, on the other hand, has been enjoying plenty of airplay at the Riz Mansion. That’s not necessarily saying that ED is better than FF. I’m not mad at Kwe for whining about toothpaste and the Bible, but he was flirting with preachy territories right there. Oh, and all those clichés…”They say life is not about the destination, it’s about the journey”; “They say you can’t please everybody.” No sh*t.

That being said, 90% of Ear Drum bangs and it’s still one of the most enjoyable CDs out so far.

Now that I’m done with my rant, back to TRU’s regularly scheduled programming. Which CDs, old or new, have been getting major spins in your system lately?

Here’s my list:

10. Underground Kingz, UGK
9. Ear Drum, Talib Kweli
8. Noreality, N.O.R.E.
7. The Jewelry Box Session, Planet Asia
6. Polluted Water, Ice Water
5. Mixtape Messiah 3, Chamillionaire
4. “Coulda Been” (That one song by Lupe Fiasco)
3. Monster Maker, C-Ray-Z Walz & Sharkey
2. The Message Uni Versa, G & D [Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Perkins]
1. Most Likely to Succeed, Luckyiam

Ice Water any good? I’m very apprehensive about those offshoot groups… By the way, really check that Now-Again ish, nobody’s mentioning it but that Aloe Blacc track on there is damn good (the rest isn’t slacking either by the way).

3. Belize Says:

Underground kingz #10?

Houston we got a problem

4. Rizoh Says:

The Ice Water is decent. I’m gonna need another week or two to fully digest it and form an opinion, etc,

How’s that Breakestra?

5. Belize Says:

6. Gezzius Christ Says:

Currently my music collection is elsewhere and I only have a few CDs to bump whilst I go about my daily chores, but it’s got to be…

1. Ear Drum (In The Mood)

9. hiphoppolice Says:

2. “It aint hard to tell” Nas
3. “never change” Hov
4. “in too deep” Nas/nature

11. Rizoh Says:

Mark Ronson’s album is dope in parts. I need to get back to that.

And can someone please hook me up with that J*Davey joint?

12. esbee Says:

Don’t listen to much hip hop these days…

Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
Best of Chaka Khan - Chaka Khan
The Ezekiel Hanani LP - Soulbrotha
Music for Agony mixtape - Soulbrotha

13. Trent Says:

I love Common’s Finding Forever — replayability is non-stop for me.

Talib Kweli’s Eardrum on the other hand is quite boring to me. Replayability is 10 percent. But I love two songs –”Soon the New Day” and “In the Mood.”

The Message Uni Versa by G & D [Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Perkins] is tough listen for me as well.

So for me, it’s Common and Black Milk (Popular Demand).

14. T DOT Says:

Whole Foods - Andre 3000
Erykah Badu - Baduizm
Ludacris - Re-Release Therapy
Radiohead - OK Computer
Talib Kweli - Eardrum
M.I.A. - Kala
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - The Main Ingredient
Common - Finding Forever
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams (Because of Wifey)
Slum Village - Fantastic Vol. 2
Sublime - Gold 1 & 2

15. Nahshon Says:

Popular Demand was dope. I’ve been on Eardrum all week. Twice a day on average but I’m dissecting it. FF to me was overrated among bloggers. I thought Mixtape Messiah was garbage…but thats cuz I think Chamillionaire is garbage.

What cd, if any, is that Lupe on? Because that song is pure dope.

16. Rizoh Says:

It’s on Rizoh’s Radio 19, lol.

I posted it here: http://therapup.rawkus.com/2007/08/7-great-songs-that-you-may-have-missed-this-year.html

17. Nahshon Says:

yeah I rmeember that post. But he hasnt put out a cd?

18. Rizoh Says:

Nah, everybody’s waiting on The Cool. It’s supposedly dropping in November or something.

19. ITN Says:

5)M.I.A (Kala)
4)Chrissette Michele (I am)
3)UGK (Underground Kingz)
2)Jay-z (Blueprint)
1)Common (Finding Forever)

**I aint understand how u can say finding forever has no replay value.

20. J to the AAP Says:

That Breakestra’s dope. They didn’t go with the live mixtape idea for this one though. It’s structured like a regular album and has original songs in stead of covers. Still, if you digged ‘Live Mixtape vol.2′ I’m sure you’ll dig ‘Hit The Floor’ too.

21. was u sayin something? Says:

According to my itunes -
1) Hi Tek-So Tired (ft. Devin, Bun B, Pretty Ugly)
2) White Stripes - Jolene
3) Richie Spice-Youths So Cold
4) Amy Winehouse-Back to Black
5) The Clash - One More Time
6) Feist - See Line Woman
7) Game - All I Nedd
8) Lil’ Wayne - Dyin
9) Lil’ Wayne - Dear Lord
10) Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World (Unplugged)

I listen to ALOT of hip hop but according to my itunes this is what I been bumpin the most..guess i listen to more hip hop in the ride and on the go than at the crib. Makes sense.

I like the old school drums on the Mark Ronson album. Plus ODB is on one of the tracks.

The AMy Winehouse song “Valerie” has crack sprinkled on it. I been listening to that song since it leaked..too damn good.

But some of the other vocals make some of the songs unlistenable.

24. HHF Says:

@Nahson

Popular Demand is still my top hiphop (maybe all) album of the year

25. Collen B. DuBOSE Says:

Damien Marley- Welcome 2 Jamrock
T.I., Cassidy, Banks, Wayne & Wiz Khalifa -mix cds
Joell Ortiz-the Brick

28. sooch Says:

I haven’t listened to all of Ear Drum yet. I can’t get past “In The Mood”. Talk about replays, Kanye kind of kills it on his verse. It’s hard listening to Kweli through a whole album though, kinda like Busta Rhymes listenings.

5. Common - Finding Forever
4. Ice Cube - Death Certificate
3. Show & A.G. - The Goodfellas
2. Twinight’s Lunar Rotation
1. Blvd. Mosse - “U Can’t Escape The Hypness”
