Like I said at the previous BET Hip Hop Awards that it was nothing but southern artists. I guess they are running shit.

Don’t you mean ruining ish. Many Southern Rappers are terrible, besides with the lyrical condition and culture of hip hop they can have that garbage.

Southern rap is the only good thing about mainstream rap. Yeah, you got alot of these lil one hit wonder bullshit ringtone rappers, but T.I., Luda, Chamillionaire, Wayne, OutKast, UGK > the collective East and West coasts.

People say the South is why hip hop is dead, but it’s the only thing keeping it alive IMO. Who do you have that’s major coming out of NY or LA? 50 Cent, Dipset, Game, Snoop? That’s it. And none of them are as good as the Southern rappers I listed.

Slim, throughout the past couple years, the only rappers that sell outside of 50 Cent, Kanye and Jay-Z are Southern rappers. The South has a steady stream of rappers who put out decent numbers. Hell, it’s September and the only rap album to go platinum is from a rapper from the South.

50 Cent and Jay-Z put out an album every 2-3 years and that’s the only time any rapper from NY goes platinum. And the two biggest rappers from LA can’t even push a mill. Southern rappers are making the money right now and that’s what keeps the industry alive.

Alot of NY cats blame the South for NY not being on top, but it’s because nothing is coming out of the NY mainstream that’s worth fucking with. I think Saigon could take off if his label backed him, but that’s not looking good.

BET has given up any responsibility to the progression of blk culture. Their only responsibility now is to the pursuit of stacking dollars!

The South may be keepin’ hip-hop alive [financailly] but they are also dumbin’ it down in my humble opinion. I mean Souljah Boy? [with another annoying, coon a** dance], Hurricance Chris? Dem’ Franchize Boys from last year? Young Jeezy? Even T.I annoyed the hell out of me with that “What U Know About Crack“. I’m like damn homey can u get any more stereotypical? And who did that damn “Wipe Me Down” song? I absolutely HATE some of this sh*t.

On the other hand never complain about what u permit. I complain and criticize while at the same time tryin’ 2 do my part 2 elevate hip-hop and take it in a different direction. Somebody has 2 do SOMETHIN‘ instead of bein’ content bein’ an armchair critic whether they be from the east, west, north or south 4 real.

All I gotta say is I’m personally thankful 4 Kanye’s album cuz’ regardless of where dude is from … I’m feelin’ his joint. I also heard that NaS is gearin’ up 2 release another joint by the end of the year and I’m crazy amped.

But I read somewhere — but I don’t know if this is true — that the reason why the BET Hip-Hop Awards is in Atlanta is because it’s cost effective and that Atlanta police is willing to provide security.

When organizers tried to set it up in New York, they get roadblocks and a list of demands from the city as to what they can and cannot do with the preparations of an awards ceremony at say, Madison Square Garden.

Now I don’t know if this is true, but this might explain why you don’t see the Grammys anywhere but in Los Angeles. They did do New York, but I think that was a bust for them.

So, I think the BET people wanted to stay on the cheap and hold the awards ceremony in Atlanta. The southern hospitality is great and, of course, the top nominee is from the ATL. Plus, I also think its neuteral in a sense. ATL is right in the middle.

But that’s just my two cents.

Oh, plus with the Ozone Awards that already happened in Miami and the VMAs in Vegas, think BET probably said look lets do in the ATL and not follow their lead.

You raised some strong points. Atlanta truly welcomed them the last time around, but one or two haters still complained about roads being blocked off and whatnot.

Your #1 argument to support the claim that Hip-Hop is alive BECAUSE of Southern artists is flawed. You say that they’re saving Hip-Hop by being the only artists (aside from Jay and Fif) to go platinum. But when in reality, it’s the commercialization of Hip-Hop that’s taken away it’s “soul”, so to speak. Real Hip-Hop could give a flying f*ck about plaques.

Could someone please tell me Why in the fuck is Jay’z nomiated for any thing.Far as rap supposingly giong away because of southern rap.
