Understanding Says:
I’m not offended at all b/c of that word u mentioned … context. Context is everything and in this case I understand the context within which he is using the word Ni**er. I don’t really like 2 use the word in my songs but in the 1st song on my page I do and it again has 2 do with context. I am MUCH more offended by Three-Six Mafia [4 example] and everything they stand 4 including that God-4saken song “Its Hard Out Here For A Pimp” which actually won an Academy Award. Real talk that was a low point 4 Black people in my opinion …

This song is dope as hell. And yeah, perfect context for a white jew to say the “N-word” but damn, this song is so sick.

Rick. Says:
This reminds me of when Young Black Teenagers came out with Daddy Called Me Niga Cuz I Liked To Rhyme. It’s all context. But I know some people out there think that white people should never say the word. Hell, almost everything confrontational, out of context, is offensive. Listeners have to think before they open their mouths with their fuckin’ opinions.
I’ll be interested to see if this gets any heat. I have no idea where Ill Bill and La Coka Nostra are on the mainstream media attention scale.

rappers say racial slurs all the time (such as chink) and no one gives a fuck like it’s nothing. (e.g. serius jones, grafh, styles p, jadakiss) but using the n-word is just a huge deal. in this situation, everyone’s gon be like it’s cool cause the context it is used in but in many other situations, everyone goes nuts cause someone uses the n-word. i don’t use the n-word.
i love hip-hop but hip-hop’s fucked up cause it’s hypocritical and to me hip-hop always gets a bad rap and for the wrong reasons so i get pissed but fuck it. peace.
btw, song is pretty hot.

Nice recall on the old YBT track, Rick. That’s really the only song I can think of that featured a white MC uttering the word.
It is a nice track. Ill Bill has got some skills.

Ha, Bill is my boy. I actually have his number on speed dial. Dude is one of the most down the Earth cats I know in the industry. He doesn’t have a racist bone in his body. Fool needs to take one of my tracks for his new album! La Coka Nosta…
|

Mjlovesthekids69 Says:
I can see how someone would be offended by this, even if he is using it in a “good” sense.
But like someone said before, it’s similiar to what YBT said (only a shitload better). With that said, I’d still have a problem with whites calling me a nigga. It may sound trite, but we made a good thing out of that word, and for some white dude who thinks he’s down to say that feels like a slap to the face.
It’s almost like taking us back 500 years.

esbee Says:
Well context is important. Personally I have my issues with the N-word. I never want it used by anyone but that’s MY opinion only…however I realize its a word that ppl will continually use in attempts to dilute its meaning and importance in black history. I don’t know if that will work either…
Still, I haven’t been too comfy with cats like him or Immortal Tech who use the N-word freely to describe their experience but if taken in context the word itself is used to debase a human being so its understandable in this situation…
I dunno man I just hate that word…its akin to “kaffer” and other such words thrown at us over the ages.
|
| 11. |
jean Says:
you people dont seem to understand…whatever the context,if He aint black then he shouldnt use that word…there are words that we cant use so we shouldnt allow dem people to do so with us.period
|
| 12. |
moneda Says:
“jean,” you don’t seem to understand, this isn’t just “some word” he chose to make an example of. He, and other non-Black cats like Immortal Technique (why he was even mentioned in comments to this song I have no idea), have been called this word, or variations of it, their entire lives. It may have had a some-what different meaning (is “nigger lover” any less offensive than “nigger?”), but it was the same god damned word. Who decides that he doesn’t have the right to use it in this context?

Jamie Says:
To keep it real so what..who cares if they call him a”white nigger”. It’s a big difference between being called one because the way you dress and being called one because of your skin. He could have not rapped, not hang out with Black kids…. he had an out. We can’t take off our skin and hang it up in the closet. So he could have kept that to his self. It worst to be call a nigger than nigger lover. I don’t use the word outside a historical reference (African History) so I won’t be consigning on this either.
Some of need a history lesson..being called nigger has zero to do with rapping or who your friends are so I have no idea what “context” people are speaking of.
|
| 16. |
moneda Says:
I bet you’re really proud of yourself for only using it in “historical reference,” Jamie, but the fact of the matter is Bill is ignorant. That’s an easy enough conclusion to come to. He doesn’t see racism as systemic oppression, he confuses it with prejudice or bigotry (and he’s not alone in that, as can be gleamed from the comments above). The crux of the matter is: do you find offense in the word or his use of it? If you’re offended by the word I can admit you have the right to be so, but if you’re only mad ’cause it’s being used by a white guy…. then I don’t give a fuck.
|
| 17. |
sharkcity Says:
young motherfuckers really do need a history lesson…hell no this shit aint cool to be using nigger, i dont care what context he is using it in because the reference to calling himself nigger in the first place correlates with the true harshest meaning of the word…so fuck no it aint cool he couldve used a lot of other derogatory words that jews are called and couldve been just as effective if he is so nice

Jamie Says:
moneda….sorry if you think “historial reference ” are big words you might need more education. Second it is obvious you misunderstood my response because you are not disagreeing with me. Didn’t I say I did not use the word? Yes, when I am teaching Am..history to my students I explain the word nigger in the historical meaning of the word which is to demean African people born in Am… HELLO, do you even understand what “historical reference” means? Your assumption that “historical reference” means the latter definition of nigger(nigga) being a term of endearment or that I think blacks can use it shows you confused if so, You really need to work on your comprehension skills.

Tamére Says:
I dont know why some of you compare Bill to imortal technique, hes black aint he? peruvian or somethin.. no one says nothing when fat joe use the word, why would it be different for immortal technique… who decide if your black enough.. or I dont know what you needs to be legally saying it
|
| 22. |
Information Says:
Firstly, Immortal technique is 1/4 African, and 3/4 Latino. Secondly, people who are of latino background (except spanish) can use this word, because they have african blood in them, you illiterate idiots. Thirdly you cant say its ‘ok’ to say it in context, thats bullshit, ‘nigger’ was a word used by whites to dehumanise africans and distinguish themselves from whites. Fourthly, ‘Nigga’ not ‘Nigger’ is used between africans and latinos, because they took the word ‘nigger’ and changed it to ‘nigga’ in order to represent unity and strength within their communities.
Now, everyone please shut the fuck up and stop saying this ‘context’ argument because it isnt a valid and its rude.

ITS WRONG Says:
Interesting arguments here..
I myself am about as white as possible (I’m a pale chap!) and I actually googled “why do black rappers say nigger?” because I am sick to death of hearing it..
We have a lot of ethnic groups in our community, and if I walked up to a black guy and said “hey nigger” I would expect a GSW or knife in the chest.. why? BECAUSE ITS OFFENSIVE
Likewise, if someone came up to me and said “hey honky” I hope that idiot expects the same in return.. BECAUSE ITS OFFENSIVE
both of these terms (and any other racial slurs) are BS no matter which way you look at them..
And all this BS about “nigger” becoming “nigga” to show “unity” is just crap, its probably because the morons spouting it cannot spell.
Racism is wrong. Period.
It amazes me how talented musicians/artists make themselves look like idiots by spewing this crap out of their mouths. Slavery was abolished a long time ago, this word should have gone with it.

A.O. Soprano Says:
Stop bitching, you people. Bill’s totally justified in using the word. Hear the lyrics of the song, and you’ll get the message.
“Call me white nigger, call me christ killer or kike -
call me nigger lover because I spit on the mic -
think you got me figured out, you’re not listenin’ right -
Get your fuckin’ head kicked in for thinkin’ you hype”
He’s exposing racism and bigotry. He even says Kike. Y’all are acting as if he’s the one picking on black people, when he’s not. He uses sentences like “Mel Gibson never liked Danny Glover” and “If me and peoples were they we woulda kicked the fuckin’ shit outta Kramer”. He’s just dropping the n-bomb to be more descriptive with his story telling and message, plus you need to acknowledge the balls Bill has, cuz not many artists are bold enough to speak up about certain things…
And why don’t I hear people bitch when black rappers say shit like Honkey, Cracker, or Guinea?

Please explain? Says:
what the fuck? I have 2 curiosities:
1) I can’t understand the difference between Nigger and Nigga? What the fuck does it matter–it still translates to “fool” (either way it’s a fucking insult). so what the fuck is the difference if one bastard uses the word versus another? Aren’t black people interested in EQUALITY? –equality means equality with everything–use of words included.
2) It don’t matter what color you are; all of the ‘Have nots’ suffer through shit that the “haves” don’t. seriously even 2-Pac said it “…they say it’s the white man I should fear, but it’s my OWN kind do all the killing here.”
Disclaimer: I truly am an equal opportunity hater.

Bad Method Says:
First of all “Nigga” came from the word “Nigger” spoken by the slaves of the time as they were not wellspoken and educated, simple as that. And when they spoke it, it was like the only term they knew to refer to each other as cause the slave masters didnt call them anything else. It doesnt matter what reason why a person uses it, black or non black, it is still an ugly word and with a such a horrible history. However, I am sympathic to artists and only real artists who use the term to describe certain things about culture and history which I believe what Bill is trying to do. Immortal Technique is speaking from his heart and he has “true” knowledge of self, I can’t say anything bad about Imm. Tech other than that he doesn’t have accurate knowledge of the bible but that’s another debate. But back on the subject of artists using it to describe certain aspects of American culture, I can somewhat give a pass to but I am more offended when our so called brothers in hip hop (Rap really) that use the term, I mean its just downright dissrespectful towards themselves and other blacks. They not using it to battle social or economic troubles in the community, they are straight up glorifying black on black crime and self destruction. How many black artists have come out in the last ten or more years that have professed to be crack dealers in their songs?? Or in recent two years have openly professed to be active gang memebers (can you say Dipset??). I remember when Rap was about having a goodtime during the struggles we go through in the ghetto but now all the maintstream artists talk about is bling this, nigga that, I’ll slice ya’ ass, and then there’s the bullshit beefs these fools get into. But all certain peole wanna get on these white artists who are socailly concious of the problems of the ghetto mainly cause they grew up in these enviroments. You seem to forget that the powers to be call these white artists niggers too. I’m not saying that it will ever be on the level of what black people go through, as one commentor pointed out, that for some white people (like Eminem) they can at anytime change the way they talk and dress and become apart of mainstream America but thats when you see who is true and who is not. I do think it’s too late for Bill though, he’s kinda stuck in the streets, LOL. But all jokes aside, there are in certain situations the word can be used like the Amercian History Professor said, to instruct people on the issues but for all other references, I can barely excuse the use of the word. And as a Black Man, i find it equally offensive for another so called brother to call me “nigga” as a white man calling me “nigger”. As I said before, in slavery days slaves called eacth other that cause they were called “nigger” so much they didnt know any other way to refer to each other. Surely, in the 21st Century we can come up with better things to refer to each other and that term be openly and accepted as “affectionate”. I’ve always kind of liked “brother” myself.

it is a terrible word with a terrible past so i dont believe anybody should use it but since people do it should be used to teach people of history and you choose what you get offended by and its only a word and all that bullshit that latinos can use it because they have black blood in them is garbage because they have european aka white blood in them too so does that mean their racist

The word nigger should only come out o a black persons mouth. other races should not say it in any context because it is very offensive to us blacks. I guess u can somewhat blame hip hop because the whites are buying their cd’s and rapping along. They eventually come across the word nigger. But they need to realize where the word came from. I do not think people (the dude ferman )should be mad at the fact that hip hop is hipocritical, because many other racial words DON’T HAVE HISTORY!!! the N-word does!!!!

Shaun Says:
I’m crackin’ up at someone who just turned sixteen (presumably, judging by the name) trying to say anything about racial issues. Especially given the fact that they are most likely (and again, just going based on their name) from the suburbs. Shit…a white cat from the hood has more right to say “nigga” than a black dude from the suburbs.
It’s not an offensive term unless it’s used in an offensive way…I don’t see how that’s not more clear to some people. You can talk on and on about it’s history…we all know it’s history, but what it all comes down to is this: it’s a word. A word created to exclude one group of people based on something ridiculous. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t take the word and use it to refer to ourselves, does it?
I was at a Nas show today, and he said something I’ve always truly believed in my heart: “If you down with our struggle, it don’t matter what color you are; white, black, yellow, red, whatever…we all in this together, and we all niggas.”

me Says:
I’m black, the n-word (”gga” or “gger”) being said by a white person is offensive. All of you who are black and say that he doesn’t offend you should stop and think. There are lots of white people who think we are niggers. I’m not talking about if we are or not, or the prejudice white vs. non-prejudice… I’m stating a simple fact; there are white people who think we are. Through the civil rights movement and the birth of hip hop the word “nigger” was taken from white people, made taboo for them to speak publicly, and made to be used exclusively by us. This guy is a white rapper, there are many other white rappers… they too will want to use the word. There are many white’s who will spoof rap in order to use the word publicly. To those of you who are black and say you are not offended, you are not being progressive; you’re being quite the contrary, you are moving backward. You are giving white people the go ahead to speak the word nigger or “gga” to our face. Has it’s been so long since we were faced with that as a people that our generation doesn’t know that pain. I DON’T think so. The day will not return where white people can use that word freely. Will you shame the life, and the sacrifice thereof, of MLK to exalt Hip-Hop? Is this why he allowed himself to be beaten, jailed, and terrorized (he was non-violent)? I know how the old adage goes, “history repeats itself” but I am even more familiar with the saying “there is an exception to every rule”. My black brothers and sisters we hold the key this time. White people saying nigger in a public forum has returned make no mistake. But this time… this time it is up to us if such a thing perpetuates. This white guy wants to say nigga and can’t help that he was born white. That word being evil when spoke from his lips is a condition of whites oppressing blacks, it is not our responsibility to ease his “pain” in that capacity. This guy is wrong, he is the key to a world of hurt for us. We need to take that key and swallow it. We must consume him.

Halfnhalf Says:
I’m half white and half peruvian (my peruvian side is half full black or negrito as they call it, and half native, tho there is hispanic blood from someone raping one of my ancestors) My mom grew up in Philly, hella fucked up hood, and her sisters story is like that of Uncle Howie. Anyway, if you notice, Bill is not saying the word in a demeaning way towards a black person, nor is he saying he’s a “nigga”. He says:
Call me white nigger
Call me christ killer or kike
Call me nigger lover
because I SPIT ON THE MIC
think you got me FIGURED OUT
you’re not listening right”
basically, he saying how when he was younger, the rich kids thought of him as a white nigger or nigger lover or whatever you want to call it. He also mentions anti-semetic terms, and he’s not trying to hate on his own kind. He’s pointing out racism and how it affected him.
I also don’t agree with that person that said that latinos can’t say “nigga,” my reason being because many blacks have white in them too. Blacks women were taken advantage of by whites, same as the natives and blacks in Latin America. In my hood, almost nobody associates “nigga” with “nigger” anymore. Its use has evolved so much. I am very light skinned because of my mom being Irish, but my black friends realize that when I use it, I am not attempting to oppress them, but rather embrace them. I have heard it so much while growing up that it has become engrained in me. I also go to a private school for rich kids since I got a full scholarship (high school) and when I hear them say it, they’re not sincere. Immortal Technique is sincere when he uses it, but these kids are not. They use it jokingly.
It’s all about context. Ill Bill is showing how he was called a white nigger as an insult and how he was treated like one, hes not calling a black person a “nigger.” He’s showing how the association of hip hop with “niggers” has become so widespread. Also with the use of “nigga” i think its less of an empowerment argument, and more of a simple fact that it has evolved and become common place. I hear it where I live as much as I hear “bro” where I go to school. Most kids don’t really think of it as related to nigger much.
