Big Huto Says:
lol….”nas stans??” yeh jay-z has had the most impact in terms of sales + fame, but u cud argue that nas’ style has influenced and shaped hip hop for the last 15 years?
jus sayin tho, hope this is vintage hov, got a sneaking feeling this album cud be a disapointment….
|
| 8. |
T2 Says:
Jay the Greatest of all time. I can believe that Wayne is on the album though it better be hot.
NOVEMBER 6TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
| 9. |
Walter Says:
WHY WOULD HE PUT WAYNE ON THIS ALBUM?!?!!?!?
I sincerely hope Wayne doesn’t ruin what is shaping up to be a good album…
|
| 10. |
Walter Says:
Also. To anyone who doesn’t think Jay has had the most impact in the last decade…let’s just count how many other rappers have dropped a platinum album every year that they were active…
Nas is still one of the best, but to say that he’s dropped more relevant material than Hov is just being a stan
|
| 11. |
RAE Says:
You all are the biggest fuc*in Jay stans I have ever seen. Seriously Rizoh, I don’t know how much more I can take of you massage Jay’s nuts. This is gettin a little absurd. You might be goin a little “Hollywood” as Be would say.
|
| 12. |
RAE Says:
Oh and Walter: droppin platinum records mean that the material is relevant right? Lets get our priorities straight ladies.
|
| 13. |
RAE Says:
And I hope that boy pays respect to The Menahan Street Band where its due got damnit! And why oh why would he up the tempo of that funky ass beat?
Hova da god awful beat wrecker lol.
|
| 14. |
Rizoh Says:
^You mad?
|
| 15. |
RAE Says:
terribly mad, those my boys. have you head that original recording? shit is timeless.
|
| 16. |
STEELER Says:
UK says NAS everytime… Jay Z is a great of course but he could never have written Ether for example, he just cant write that deep, no-one can argue. And im not even a Nas stan, im just definitely not a Jay Gay.
|
| 17. |
RAE Says:
Jay’s gonna have to fall back to Cass anyways. haha
|
| 18. |
Walter Says:
When the worst album you’ve dropped in the last 10 years is arguably Kingdom Come, then I think you’re doing alright.
Considering that no other major rapper has done what he’s done since 96, I don’t see how you people can say what you’re saying. This isn’t a “Jay is the best rapper alive!111one!” statement, it’s the truth. He’s been the most consistent, most relevant, most prolific rapper of the last 10 years. Those are the facts.
He may not be the best rhyme-spitter, but when you look at what he’s done since 96, no other rapper can match up.
|
| 19. |
RAE Says:
Sure he’s sold more records, but his lyrical content is at times, and by times I mean most of the time, meaningless and monotonous. I would even say that Kweli has had a more relevant career over the last ten years than Jay.
I think you mean to say that no other Pop star has done what he’s done since 96, cuz in terms of content relevancy, he just doesn’t measure up. Most prolific. Big words.
And I would say that he’s a pretty dope rhyme-spitter, but what is contained in those rhymes has little relevancy to our times, just a lot of braggadocio and bull shit. Thats all good and everything, but lets not make him out to be more than he is. An ill rhyme spitter, who once was in touch with the streets. I mean damn the only relevant material that he spits today is to the IZOD wearin thirty somethin year old crew, and the lets look back at our lives and talk about how we learned how to ride a bike crew.
|
| 20. |
STEELER Says:
Ok then….for example, since 96, Ghostface Killah has dropped…
Ironman
Wu Tang Forever numerous verses including “source magazine verse of the year” on Impossible
Supreme Clientele
The W
Bulletproof Wallets
The W – verses
Iron Flag – verses
The Pretty Tony Album
Fishscale
More Fish
8 diagrams coming and The Big Dough Rehab.
Now Ghost is just an example, not daying hes the best.
is Jay Z’s stuff more prolific and better than than that?
NO – why does everyone wet themselves over Jay Z?
|
| 21. |
Deezie Says:
WTF? How hasn’t Nas’s material been more relevant. The content of his lyrics put side by side to Jigga’s proves that he is a better lyricist. Yeah Jay is selling more because of his sucess with the pop culture. Nas does not have that. But that doesn’t mean that he didn’t sell a good amount in sound scan on all of his albums. I may be a NAS stan, and I have a good reason! This Jigga album is gonna piss you off, all of you stans will be disappointed. puts your bets up with that.

Big L Says:
if you are basing relevance off of album sales, snoop dogg is just as relevant as jay…and i dont know why people shit on Nas’ sales, every release, but Hip Hop Is Dead has gone platinum.
|
| 23. |
Big L Says:
and HHID is has gone gold, which is by no means a disapointment, at least in my eyes.
|
| 24. |
david Says:
well i cant think of any other rapper that released as much garbage if thats what u mean…..
|
| 25. |
Rizoh Says:
Before anyone gets shit misconstrued, those who know anything about me know where I stand on the whole jay v nas issue. Now that we got that out the way, take a look at this:
Jay-Z: 1997 – 2007
Vol 1
Vol 2
Vol 3
The Dynasty
Blueprint
Blueprint 2
Black Album
Kingdom Come
Nas: 1997 – 2007:
I Am
Nastradamus
QB’s Finest
Lost Tapes
Stillmatic
God’s Son
Street’s Disciple
Hip-Hop Is Dead
Honestly, it’s a tie between these two guys. They’ve had their fair share of classic albums and disappointing albums, but it’s still a toss up btw them, which is my whole point of that statement. Can you think of any other rapper, outside of these two, that has had the pumped out many a great records in the last ten? Riddle me that.
|
| 26. |
Big L Says:
outkast has an equally impressive discography, if not even better aka no disapointments. not sure if the fact that they are a “rap group” hurts them in the category of importance/relevance “since two heads are better than one”
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik ATLiens
Aquemini
Stankonia
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
Idlewild
|
| 27. |
Big L Says:
…this is also going from 1994
|
| 28. |
RAE Says:
I agree with Outkast except for (in my book) Idlewild was not only just a disappointment, it was so bad that I have deemed it a piece of fecal matter. Besides that, (and the subpar Speakerboxxx disc), I second that nomination.
|
| 29. |
RAE Says:
Kweli:
1998 – Black Star
2000 — Train of Thought
2002 — Quality
2004 — The Beautiful Struggle
2006 — Liberation
2007 — Eardrum
The Roots:
1999 — Things Fall Apart
1999 — The Roots Come Alive
2002 — Phrenology
2004 — The Tipping Point
2006 — Game Theory

PROUD NAS STAN Says:
NAS > JAY-Z
|
| 32. |
T2 Says:
Jay-Z is the greatest of all time. He is untouchable Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint and The Black Album were classics.
That 90s era was the shit and if you wasn’t dope you never got a chance wit pple like Wu-Tang, Nas, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Outkast, Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G. the list can go on.
We should appreciate that era cus we will not have a better era than that.

omar Says:
You people ride the camel’s nuts so hard that you fail to realize that from day 1 he has always idolized Nas. I don’t recall Nas sampling camel lyrics for hooks or inviting him to be in videos.
There is no bigger Nas stan in the world than the camel.
Jay Lost

SomeOne Says:
if you don’t like Jay fine but don’t get bent out of shape cause he’s on he cover of XXL and your favorite rapper aint….damn niggas act like bitches about hip-hop.
The Nas vs Jay-z debate will go on forever but with Nas working for him Jay’s winning…..and that a FACT.
Please stop trying to compare Talib to Jay-z. I got love for Talib but your just being a fan.
One last question: Do some of you so-called hip-hop fan really listen to Jay’s lyrics or do you just skim through it? cause i get the impression that most of you don’t. Jay shit ain’t Relevant…y’all niggas kill me.
|
| 35. |
moneda Says:
Jay is relevant to everyone ignorant nigga who thinks “pushing weight” makes you more of a hustler than a nigga that holds down two jobs and gets an education. Shut that bullshit up, please.
Also, Nas doesn’t work for Jay, he works for L.A. Reid.
|
| 36. |
butacupz Says:

|
| 37. |
T2 Says:
It is funny how people are quick to say that Jay ain’t the boss and the rappers don’t work for him but they are quick to slam him when the albums flop and nobody mentions L.A. Reid it just proves the hyprocrisy of some of you dudes.
|
| 38. |
SomeOne Says:
T2,Thank you for saying what i was thinking cause i just seems pointless to these haters.
