Street’s Disciple

Today is the 3rd anniversary of the 3rd best double album in hip-hop history, Street’s Disciple (Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and All Eyez on Me hold the 1 & 2 two positions respectively, imo). So, allow me to indulge in a bit of throwback stannery.

Whatever happened to Quan?

Beware of Kanyevel

evel-and-kanye.jpg

Just the other day, we were all talking about how Evel Knievel has resolved his dispute with Kanye. The two met at Evel’s mansion and straightened things out like grown men. He even had some nice things to say about Mr. West. Now SportsIllustrated.com is reporting that the 69-year old daredevil has kicked the bucket.

Knievel’s death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

I doubt there’s any concrete correlation here, but Kanye must be thinking: “Damn, this can’t be right. Why’s everyone I get in contact with keeps dying?”

Don’t believe everything your earlobe captures

jay_ag.jpg

Jay’s nemesis, De-Haven Irby, is back with more blasts from the past. He’s now saying that Hov’s drug dealing claim needs more people.

Did you and Jay sell drugs together?

No, he ain’t do much selling drugs. I did all that work. He was just a good dude to be around. He was one of my best friends. I taught him some things, but I mainly kept him from being out on the street a lot. Whatever was mine was his. So, we shared clothes, we shared a whole bunch of stuff. We had sex with the same women plenty of times. We both got burnt! We had the drip. My mom took him to the clinic. My mom also got him out of jail.

Does Jay exaggerate his drug-dealing in his songs?

I’m telling you he overexaggerates. He was there to see things, but doing some big-time Frank Lucas–type thing? No. He nickled and dimed, but nothing on a major scale. He definitely didn’t sell nothin’ in Marcy. Spanish Jose, who he mentions a lot [in his songs], was a friend of mine. Jay didn’t have no affiliation to Spanish Jose.

You’re saying Jay appropriated your story?

He says it himself. He’s been talking about me since day one, on a lot of his albums. He mentioned me on The Black Album, and I hadn’t seen him in years.

Well, Jay said it best: “It’s only entertainment.”

Styles P ft. Akon - Got My Eyes on You

sp_akon.jpg

I posted this track way back in February when Styles first announced the end of his relationship with Interscope. Here’s the CD version, taken from his upcoming album Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman). I still prefer the old album title.

UMG’s anti-iTunes Plan Doomed to Fail

morris.jpg

Wired magazine recently published a revealing piece on Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris. Yes, that would be the gentleman who gained most from the fake SoundScan feud between 50 Cent’s Curtis and Kanye’s Graduation. The article shows that Morris, while a highly successful entrepreneur, has remained adamant about delivering music to people the way they want it. Read the rest of this entry »

Video: Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction”

Snoop has nothing else to prove as an MC, so he might as well get all 3000 on us. I’m still not sure what to make of this clip, except that it’s pure comedy.

Uncommon Love

serena-and-common_.jpg

Some shady shutterbug captured Common and his tennis champ girlfriend Serena Williams leaving a London hotel last night. They look like they’ve had a “rough” night.
