Unarmed Brooklyn Teen Killed by Police

ny_teen_shot.jpg

A teenager was shot and killed last night in Brooklyn. Cops fired anywhere between 15 and 20 shots at the kid, even though all he had was a hairbrush. The boy, named Khiel Coppin, was taken to a hospital, where he died on arrival. Eyewitnesses are saying that the boy’s hairbrush eventually dropped and that one of the cops called on the others to stop shooting, but they kept the fire on. Worse still, he was handcuffed after being shot.

I don’t even know this kid’s race, but 20 shots = unnecessarily excessive. It feels like Sean Bell all over again.

Co-sign Jah’s comment above… The sad truth of this nation is, in 2007 the wicked still rule… This is no different then the lynching’s at the hands of white cops in the 50’s and 60’s… We have come so far, but still have a long way to go…

3. Doc Says:

no no…not this time. the mother was tellin the cops that he had a gun…dude had his hand in his pocket & he was headed towards 5-0 & they shot him. read it in the paper today. they should have stopped firing and they never should have cuffed him. dont know if that’s justifiable or not.

4. Doc Says:

i meant justifiable homicide…they might have to investigate that to see if the bullet that killed him was shot AFTER teh brush dropped. if it was before, then it’s justifiable. still sad cause he was young.

5. Don Dada Says:

They should have stopped shooting after realizing that it wasn’t a gun, or that whatever it was had dropped. I read from several sources today that he threw his hands in the air in the middle of the shooting.

jah im all about expressing outrage for this instance, but god-damn son, educate yourself on some punctuation.

*incident, not instance

People love jumping to conclusions, especially when they’re dealing with nypd. You ought to be thinking about what it’s like in Iraq where totally innocent people can be walking down the street and killed for just walking within a 100 yards of a soldiers checkpoint and no one cares. This kids mom called 911 saying her son was acting up and he was yelling “i got a gun” into the phone. Cops came and told him to step down, he ran towards them grabbing something in his waistband. Shots fired. End of story. And sean bell? Yeah he was such a saint, with numerous firearms convictions and arrests.

9. Donny F Says:

^^^Looks like you’re the one jumping to conclusions. Unless you were there you have no idea what the whole story is.

And I’n not saying whose guilty….All I know is if they knew ole’ boy was off, thay should’ve hit him with a tazer or two istead of ammo.

10. skimasksoldier Says:

it doesn’t matter if sean bell had a shady past or was a saint the point of the matter is that the people who are supposed to protect are killing us , and shooting somebody 20 times is foolish smh at the police

11. Tony P. Says:

Will you dudes stop jumping to conclusions. Yeah, he was black. But read the story, its more like “suicide by cop.” Can the outrage.

12. greg Says:

protect us from who? if its local cops its protecting us from each other. meaning protecting citizens from citizens.

From what i’ve read this guy was really fucked up mentally. In the 911 tape you can hear him saying hes got a fucking gun. from what i’ve heard. also had knives and was yelling to shoot him. also from what i’ve heard. so far all i’ve heard has come from cops.

so take it for what it is.

13. Doc Says:

@ sosa. whether sean bell was a saint or not, he aint deserve to get shot at for no reason. lives are being lost and so i guess the ones that have been arrested for most of their dont deserve to live huh?

14. Doc Says:

@ sosa again, you were right about the boy though, his mom did call 911 and said he was actin irrate.

I am on the fence here, I don’t think any officer should not be able to go home at the end of the shift. I can see why they would put their safety over that of a person who they are trying to help. I don’t agree with the shooting, we now have tasers which I think would of been affective in this situation

16. obi Says:

“us black folks, muslims and jews or whoever is not white”

“jews” not white? am i missing something here? last time i looked i couldn’t tell the …

17. anj Says:

for every action theres a reaction.excessive force i think, we have gun nuts as police officers.

18. Trey Says:

From what the media has relayed to the public about this tragic incident, it seems that the sad result was unavoidable. Unfortunately, police officers are not mind readers. Hence, they have no choice but to act in response to a suspect’s actions and words, especially when the lives of human beings are threatened.

19. Maria Says:

The cops knew that the boy wasnt perfectly aware of what he was saying. The cops know what the fuck a gun looks like. The cops get trained to shoot. And I just dont fucking understand why, if they ABSOLUTELY had to shoot, could they not shoot at his arm, or his leg, of just graze him by the bullet. Shit, if they were to even shoot to the side, he would have taken the gun out to shoot it, if he had one, which he didnt, he had a hair brush. They fucking killed him. Why? Because they would not loose their own life in exchange for a young mans, no matter his color, no matter his age. They were selfish. And at the end of the day, it all ok to them. And to the man who said Jews are white. Yea learn your History love, they come from Israel, which is OH SO far from Europe. And they have been suffering and being picked on and spit on for thousands of years, so the man who put them in the category of a minority that is mistreated was right.
