“Saigon is Dead”

Well, that’s according to Saigon himself. The drama king has said in his latest MySpace post that he’s done with rap. His reason? The media made him do some “contraversial” things and then took advantage of the “contraversy” by reporting on it. He somehow insinuates that the media even played a role in his altercation with Mobb Deep.
Sai in his own words: “I cant take turning on a computer and seeing my name being thrown around in all kinds of ways, Its not good for me, and not good for these writers…”
“I did a interview on Shade45, the interview was 2 hours long mind you, we talked about EVERYTHING from what we need to do as a people to get on track to economizing and everything but you know whats on all the so called media outlets in boldface as the headline, ‘Saigon Disses Whoever’…You know what part of a 2 hr interview people replay? Me saying something about someone…If I woulda said, Ill slap John Hardy Hawkins for his role in the Slave trade, they would never put it in boldface or re run it 1000 times, but If I say Ill slap a rapper or something, Its the headline news of the day….Thats ass backwards to me so Im done.”
“Im not a rapper anymore, Im done.. Im back to being regular me…This shit is too fake for me, I found myself getting caught up in the bullshit but now Ill gladly walk away…”
Read the rest of his long ass post on Saigon’s MySpace page.

J to the AAP Says:
Could be quite a strong statement if he actually does quit. It also might catapult his album to a classic and his status to legendary if the album as any good (which it probably is). Imagine ten years from; “remember Sai’s album, man, such a pity dude quit, shit was hot.” It’ll be a sort of a HipHop myth.
But this whole quitting thing, like the release of the actual album, I’ll believe it when I see it.

If the album even gets out. I thought I heard that it got pushed back (on nahright) and at the end of his post it sounds like he’s talking about actually making it the greatest story never told. What a shame it would be if that album never gets dropped.

was u saying something? Says:
if saigon cant handle how media works then he needs to stop doing interviews. he did the interview for publicity. he needed the publicity (any publicity) not shade 45. he should be glad anything he said was in boldface and/or replayed anywhere…
i hope he does retire. he wont be missed.

I don’t blame him. Hip-Hop music isn’t really an avenue to release a message meant to induce change anyway; and there are other ways to get paid.

Saigon - The Moral Of The Story « WildStyle Says:
