universal is also responsible for most of the music sold period. when they made itunes/ipod available for windows, that’s when the floodgates opened up.

Right. You didn’t say he’s creating it because he finally figured out that that’s what the consumers like. You said he’s creating it to compete with Apple, which tells me that he’s looking to monopolize the game even further. Apple is currently responsible for about 70% of downloads in the U.S. alone, and Morris wants that lion share for himself.

Morris prev negative stance on iTunes & MP3’s were due to him losing money to the new technology of digital music. He now is creating a format similar to iTunes because he thinks he’s found a way to compete with Apple, see where I’m going with this.
