American Gangster Opera (Remix by Grinehouse)

ag-remix.jpg

I told you two weeks ago that the American Gangster a cappella release will prompt Danger Mouse types to come out of nowhere with their own interpretations of AG. I’ve heard a handful of these remixes, and here’s one worth checking out. I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet, so let me know if it’s consistent.

American Gangster (the album) wasn’t as good as I thought it would be though. I mean, don’t get me wrong.. I liked it. But it just didn’t stick with me as well as his other albums. Mash ups are pretty hilarious sometimes haha, this is definitely up there for favorite Jay Z Mash up. Check out http://boombaphiphop.com and catch some of the old school stuff like this and http://www.mashstix.com has a lot of the newer mashes (obviously)

This GrineHouse Team Killed it. Hot Joints!!!!!!! The last time a producer did this they started to blow up (9th Wonder with the Nas album).

4. Rick. Says:

The production is slick, but I feel like Grinehouse could have taken more care to match the samples to the mood of each song. I was hoping they would at least match the energy of the original Roc Boys with the opera version. No dice. But this is still a fun project. I’ll listen to this a few times, mos def.

Wow….wow… This remix is best so far from what has been released so far.

“I Know” is hot. “No Hook” sounds better than the original.

The Opera version was nice. I agree with Rick that when you’re producing, you should at least attempt to keep the flavor of the original. Check out my American Gangster remixes on my website.
