Chart Report: 2Pac’s Thug Outsells 2Pac’s Life

pac_.jpg

As if it’s not bad enough that Afeni Shakur and Suge Knight have made a hobby out of releasing half-assed posthumous 2Pac albums, heaven knows why they chose to release the latest one as two separate CDs with two different themes. Did it ever occur to them that Shakur is best consumed as ThugLife? The one billed Best of 2Pac, Pt. 2: Thug shifted a mere 22,500 units, but it outsold the Life side by 3,600 units. This implies that people are more drawn to the grimier side of Pac’s music. And you wonder why there’s a proliferation of pseudo gangstas in the game.

Anyhoo, Pac’s Greatest Hits CD wasn’t the only new rap album that debuted this week. Here’s how the rest of them performed on the chart:

  • Scarface - M.A.D.E. - #17 with 62,900
  • DJ Drama - Gangsta Grillz: The Album - #26 with 48,800 copies
  • Wyclef - Carnival, Vol. 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant - #28 with 46,400 copies
  • Ghostface Killah - The Big Doe Rehab - #41 with 35,600 copies
  • Styles P - Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman) - #52 with sales of 28,500
  • 2Pac - The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 1: Thug - #65 with 22,500 sold,
  • 2Pac - The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 2: Life - #77 with 18,900 copies
  • Too Short - Get Off the Stage - #160 with 8,000

Isn’t it ironic that an album titled Get Off the Stage only managed to sell 8,000 copies?

Damn those sales are poor by all of them not 1 hip hop album this week sold over a 100,000. The state of hip hop sales are embarrassing.

Why are hip hop sales so bad this year we all thought Kanye done great but then we all see Alicia Keys sales and you realise there is no comparison other genres aint suffering with downloading like hip hip is.

6. Dr. Dope Says:

its cause all us hip hop fans are cheap and download

7. Quincy Lovehandles Says:

I got bills and know about too many websites to go get music……sorry guys I’m Quincy and I’m and I download off the net

8. blacc suhn Says:

sells are down because everyone raps now. and with internet sales and being able to buy tracks seperately, who needs the album, when all you’re gonna do is listen to that one song anyway.

Styles P new album was dissapointing I didnt think Time is Money was that great either but that album came out with his label issues with Interscope.

I expected more from this album cus he never had the pressure from the maJors to put out anything he didnt want to. Still compared to what is out today Styles P is needed in the game.
