Top 10 Web Videos of 2007

camspool.jpg
2007 was truly the year of videos. With the advent of YouTube and SmashTube (shout out to Young Legend and the whole OnSmash crew), delivering an endless stream of topical content and the occasional buffoonery never seemed so effortless.

Grab a glass of water and join me as we countdown The Rap Up’s Top 10 Web Videos of ‘07.

#10. Akon’s Stage Hump
The multi-platinum selling singer takes time out of his busy schedule to dry hump a girl on stage. ‘Kon later found out that the chick was underaged.

#9. Obama Girl
The video that barack-ed the web world so much that the creators couldn’t topple it with a better follow-up.

#8. Alanis Morisette Sings “My Humps”
The Grammy-winning singer reimagines BEP’s “My Humps” as a somber tune backed only by a wailing piano. It didn’t make the song less annoying but it gave us a bizarre video of Alanis gyrating in hoochie gear.

#7. Rhymefest Meets Lil Jon
‘Fest goes to Lil Jon’s crib and is surprised by two things: People read books at Jon’s house, and the recording studio is inside a closet. This rare meeting of the minds also produced one of the best rap songs of 2007 (”Angry Black Man on an Elevator”).

#6. Daft Bodies
Two young ladies give a body-ly rendition of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” That song became even more popular after Kanye West gave it a hip-hop spin on “Stronger.”

#5. 100 Movies
A 9-minute countdown of 100 movies using only fragments of dialogs, and simply quoting every number in the countdown from 100 to 1.

#4. Cam’ron’s Swimming Pool
In the middle of his feud with 50 Cent, Cam’ron releases a video in which he instructs the cameraman to get a good shot of his kiddy swimming pool. The jury is still out on whether Cam was camping out with an aunt of freelancing as a pool attendant.

#3. Miss Teen South Carolina
Teen beauty queen dishes on the cold, hard truth about the U.S. and Iraq in the worst 40 seconds of her life .

#2. Killa Cam’s HP Ad
Proof that anyone can make up their own Cam’ron rhyme and sound authentic.

#1. D’Mite - Read a Book
Hip-hop poet Bomani “D’Mite” Armah creates an animated indictment of the black community and incites the wrath of mainstream media.

Almost Made the List:
>>Saigon & Mobb Deep club fight: | Sai-Giddy snuffed and chased out the club by Mobb Deep.

>>LL Cool J Talks Reckless: Uncle L catching feelings about what he thought may have been a subliminal shot from Jay-Z. (“I’m already the GOAT, Next stop is the Billy”).
