Complex Blog » Rap Sheet: Lupe's Gangsta Fiasco Says:
[...] Not cool: Skateboarding hopster icon, Lupe Fiasco, might have been embellishing a little in this interview with Entertainment Weekly, âWhen the gangbangers would try to pull it, I was like, âYo, I will f**k you up. And if you wanna call your cousin, call him. Iâll call me! Iâll call me right now.â We were shooting TEC-9s when we were babies, so the whole gangsta image, that ainât nothing.â [via] [...]

Yo Yo Yo Says:
I don’t know if you read the rest of the interview but he talks about how there was a crackhouse next door to where he lived and it was trying to expand and his father went over there with a gun and he was hanging out the window holding a gun. I have heard some crazy ass stories from friends about Lupes childhood that kinda grew up with him, so I believe this story, no question.

E.MikE Says:
and he was shooting guns when he was little.
he said the coolest memory he has (if you watched the dvd that came with the best buy cd version) was when his dad took him somewhere in the country or something and they were shooting guns out in the wilderness.
i’m just saying.
lol.

Lupe has some gangsta. Kanye has NONE. thing with lupe is that he made the choice not to advertise it. But look at the papers, his business partner jsut caught a crazy money laundering case last year or something

GuapKid08 Says:
that doesn’t make you a gangsta because your friend got locked up or because you know how to shoot a gun…and kanye doesn’t try to portray a gangsta image he doesnt need to thats not what hip hop is about anyway

Lo-Doe Says:
I live in Chicago. I like Lupe as an artist but that statement is over-exaggerarted. He grew up on the west side but did anybody know that Lupe went to a South Suburb high about 15-20 mins. south of Chicago?? I love his talent but keep it gangsta and keep real.

The only reason I don’t completely doubt it, is cause he used to be roomates with Stack Bundles, and that dude was pretty gully, before he got his cap peeled back. So maybe there was a time…long ago…

LiTE Says:
I woudnt doubt tha qoute jus because of tha fact that Lupe grew up on tha Westside of Chicago and it not being p**** is different from being hood/gangsta or watever else u wanna call it. And i think he def. embellished how he wudda really sed it, but satire draws more attention. (like its doin now)

1. the west side of Chicago is crazy..I gotta go Saturday and I can’t even where red and white or i’ll get shot
2. Lupe went to THORNTON. I went to the wood..suburbs of the chi.
3. He claims the west side cause that’s where he spent most of his life
4. however corny, chi-towners tend to love to talk about their gangster days like that is cute, he got caught up in the hype even though he changed.
5. ever notice how chi town people are always like “I live in the projects!!” even if it was only for a day?..that’s what lupe was on.
6. I respect LU cuz he doesn’t degrade women
7. I hate that he uses the word “nigga”. watch the boondocks my guy.

Some of ya’ll are hating ridiculously. It’s west side Chicago! You GOTTA be hard or you’ll get swallowed up. Plus Lupe has gone through that “gangsta” mode. (Sam Jackon voice) YOU AIN’T HEARD HIS MUSIC!? His mixtapes contain early tracks where he was rappin about slanging, shootin and all that “G” shit you so called gangstas love. Check the interviews and radio shows on youtube with him too. Plenty artists know of his antics and WHY he chose NOT to rap like that anymore. Knowledge is power so learn something . . . peasants.
|
| 34. |
Kay Kay Says:
I think the comment was a little exaggerated but people need to stop hatin on the west side of Chiicago. You dont know what is like until you actually been there or lived there. I been in chicago all my life and it dont make me no better or worse than any body on here. So get with the program and stop hatin, Chicago is whats up, and you just wanna be there!

His dad was in the military, and taught him how to shoot guns at an early age. he never claimed to put in work with the heat. yeah, he did used to rap “gangsta”. but actually that’s what most people do when they start rapping, until they realize, “hey, no one’s gonna believe this”, so they rap “conscious” or try to be the anti-gansta. i mc, but i just do me. its only so far you can evolve trying to be the antithesis of a dying genre (gangsta rap). sooner than later, everyone’s gonna be like lupe, kanye, or another non-threatening rapper. then what cats gonna do???
