Who would King vote for?

J Dilla Meets MLK - I Have a Dream [Thanks, khal]

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose impeccable dedication and unparalleled eloquence and charisma helped shape the fabric of tolerance in America, is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in modern history. King was a man of great vision, and you can’t say anything about him that hasn’t already been said. However, there’s a general perception that his advocacy was limited to the fight for racial equality. In reality, King fought not only for disenfranchised and impoverished Blacks, but for poor people of all races. He publicly criticized the Vietnam war, which led to strained relations with then president Lyndon B Johnson. In fact, when King was assassinated on 4/4/68, while standing on a motel balcony, he was in Memphis to support striking city sanitation workers.

In his most famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” MLK pronounced, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

If Dr. King was alive today, which of the presidential candidates would attract his support?

i’d imagine he would vote for Barack Obama, only because King would like to see some change. If King were alive today, and the world was still the way it is now, i have no doubt that he would see Obama as the spark our nation needs.

I wish more Americans saw it that way.

John Edwards:

He’s shpaed the debate by bringing health care and poverty back into US Politics. Dont forget Martin Luther King was a self-described democratic socialist/marxist-humanist, he had a commitment to social justice.

That being said, Obama’s certainly inspiring. His politics are great, just his policies are watered down.

Either Obama or Edwards assuming his positions would have remained where they were when he was assassinated….

Let’s just say that Dr. King was pro-life and would not support someone who supports the worst form of abortion, partial birth abortion. Also, in many of Dr. King’s speeches, he spoke on equal rights for all, not just blacks. He would also support and chear on successful people, especially blacks. The focus of his movement was that there was an even playing ground or an equal opportunity to all. Obama does not celebrate success. Individuals are basically encouraged NOT to be successful or you will be taxed to death so he can “SPREAD THE WEALTH”. So, I guess I will make sure I don’t try to be successful. I will remain content in being low income for the rest of my life so I won’t become the Devil because I am successful.
