Nas - What It Is [New Version] [Snippet] [Also Crappy]

nas.jpg

Here’s Nas“What It Is,” sporting a new beat from Khalil. The beat is incredible. The rhymes are OK. But the combination isn’t working. Nas needs to take this beat to the studio and rap over it with a different approach.

Head on over to Che Sing The Cool for the downloadable version and backstory.

I dont mind the lyrics or the beat to be honest, the quality is for shit - but thats not your fault
but one thing i must say is:

you would think with his album title he’d at least be stepping his lyrics up to his illmatic game and addressing some raw to the bone shit for his first single, not some half ass ‘hood ghetto jazzy pop(self made lable)’ shit.

damn nas, you disapoint
lucky i dont buy your shit any more.

and why i say this is because illmatic was a perfect record, it dropped when the water in hip-hop was fresh & warm and it set a bench mark for the 90’s, but now from 2000+ he hasn’t done much - he almost had it with HHID the title & single was just what the industry needed but his album as a whole failed to really address the issue atm I feel like nas just uses album titles and sales pitches. hype it up and ship it off while fucking the fans in the process

3. chesing Says:

I prescribe to it riz.

once the full song drops wit better quality i think its gonna be even that much doper.

4. stylez Says:

all gimmicks, its a damn shame when raw talent has to resort to this - maybe hip hop IS dead

5. DJ Raida Says:

9. AaronM Says:

I like the beat but it doesn’t really match the lyrics.
Still sounds dope though.

10. Brent Says:

11. Llano Says:

Sounds hot to me but I digress.

12. JJ Says:

13. Renato Pagnani Says:

14. Da Prpoblem Says:

if u people knew anything about hip hop u would know that this track is what people are looking for…the album is gonna be off the hook wait til the album is done and song is re-recorded thats just shitty quality that is gonna be a masterpiece you just gotta take it all in

15. J to the AAP Says:

“if u people knew anything about hip hop u would know that this track is what people are looking for”
Yawn *stretch* huh? what?
A guy on the internet has elected himself as the embodiment of HipHop’s collective conciousness and now we all have to adhere to his taste as THE standard for HipHop? Damn, guess I was sleeping…

16. Da Prpoblem Says:

well yea my dad works for sony music and i hear what these record executives be asking for so yea i kinda do know what their looking for…if u don’t like it then don’t i’m not gonna tell u to like the song i’m just telling u he is just doing his job music is his job

17. J to the AAP Says:

No disrespect to your pops but I couldn’t care less about what record executives ask for. I view (good) HipHop as an artform and any viable artform should primarily be an expression of the artist him/herself.

“First of all, who’s ya A&R? A mountain climber who plays an electric guitar? But he don’t know the meaning of dope when he’s looking for a suit and tie rap that’s cleaner than a bar of soap” (C)GZA

18. MDUBB Says:

that shit is banging to me

19. da probem Says:

yea thats true i understand but i like the track and everyone i played it for loved it i mean i think its real hip hop

23. Dj RaYz Says:

Yo this beat knooooooooocks!!! When I heard Dj Khalil preview it in that web clip my spine started tingling. This beat is super raw!!!

Just to give a little background info. In the clip, Khalil stated he got the acapella from Nas’ studio and they told him to make a beat to it. When Khalil sent it back Nas A&R’s said this beat had to be put out into the street!! (Straight fire!!!). What’s probably going to happen next is that Khalil will track out his beat and then hook up with Nas to re-record the verses in the booth and then its gonna be a done deal.

I can’t wait to hear the final mix and I can’t wait to get my hands on that instrumental. I haven’t heard some crazy 70’s European style guitar loops on some Nas.

you know im getting really tired of all you internet critics and thugs, the beat is dope and the lyrics are tight. sometimes i think you new cats that have been exposed to so much bullshit over the past few years can not appreciate hip hop when its pure.
i dont know what that dude stylez is talking about, wheres the gimmick. we by albums that have the n word in every song but when its the title you got a problem. richard pryor made a fortune of the word. dick gregory wrote a book called n****r. why is the title so controversial when the word is so prevelant in society. but i guess you would like it better if the title was “money cash hoes” or something that has to do with hustling or drugs. that might suit you hypocrites a little more.
