Sean Bell’s Widow Catches Heat over Rocawear Ad
Sean Bell’s widow angered the NYPD by appearing in Rocawear’s “I Will Not Lose” ad campaign. The president of the Detectives Endowment Association called the move a publicity stunt.
The ad shows Paultre-Bell, wearing a Rocawear shirt and a wedding ring, flanked by the two youngsters. Above the photo are her words, “We are going to be here to the end, ’til justice is served.” It’s signed Nicole Bell and is a clear reference to her demand that the undercover cops involved in the controversial shooting get the toughest penalty possible. So far, the advertisement has appeared only in two black-themed magazines, Vibe and Essence.
Rubenstein refused to say how much she’s being paid for the ads. [via: New York Post]
The big deal here is that the NYPD thinks this will somehow influence the judge’s decision, as the case goes to trial today. I’m not a legal expert, so I won’t even go there. But you gotta love the way NY Post subtly skews the story to try and suggest that she’s exploiting her plight for dough.
P.S. – Good move by Jay to take a stand on this issue, while looking out for Nicole and her kids in the process. You see, Hov just might be a conscious rapper after all.
