Birthday Girl

Probably what ?uesto and co envisioned when they wrote “Birthday Girl.”
The girl in red shoes could use a couple of cheeseburgers.

Well, the song is definitely not targeting the streets. But a Birthday party in the suburbs with a bunch of hipsters and Lily Allen wannabes? Sounds about right…

After hearing “75 Bars” and “Get Busy”, I thought The Roots were going to give us a raw ass album. Then they drop this bubblegum fake ass Gym Class Heroes track. Disapointed.

I’m not a big fan of the song either, but The Roots are in a tough situation. After the dropped Game Theory, which was an excellent album, I stumbled on an article where the writer criticized them for not making songs that can appeal to a mass audience, something to that effect. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

the roots are a bunch of sellouts

#4 above = a f-cking idiot! How much great music has the Roots given you over the years and this one song elicits this reaction?? I’ve enjoyed alternately sh-tting on and celebrating these dudes over the years and I was ready to sh-t on this track too, but I actually kind of like it!

am feeling it

It isn’t their best track, but I mean, everybody has to eat, and the Roots deserve as much success as they can get.
Game Theory was killer, but if they’re going to do mainstream tracks, at least they’re enjoyable.
Kind of reminds me of Sublime, sounds like a nice song to drop in the summer.

[...] Cosign that to the fullest. If you missed it, here’s the unofficial one from a while back. [...]
