T.I. Gets off Easy

tip.jpg
Tip and his family on Easter

Looks like T.I.’s lawyers are sketching out a plea deal that will limit his bid to 1 year.

From the Associated Press:

Rapper T.I. was expected to plead guilty Thursday to federal weapons charges and will face prison time, according to two people familiar with his case.

The 27-year-old singer, whose real name is Clifford Harris, was expected to be sentenced to 1,500 hours of community service talking to youth groups around the country, followed by about 12 months in prison, according to two people familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plea deal had not been finalized yet Thursday morning.

If this goes through, those lawyers definitely deserve a raise and some hookers.

Update:
Tip is expected to enter the plea at 1:30 p.m. Quick, get those “Free T.I.” t-shirts ready.

Little Vic feat Kool G Rap – Caked Up

little-vic.jpg

::Little Vic feat Kool G Rap – Caked Up

Little Vic is a new MC out of NY, but he reminds me of Elzhi for some reason. His style is fresh, his lyrics raw and intricate. “Caked Up” is taken from Vic’s impressive debut, Each Dawn I Die, due sometime this month. I know some will hesitate to check the record unless a big name is on board, so I’ll go ahead and add that DJ Premier produced one track on the CD.

Killa Kyleon – “Roc Boys” Freestyle

Here’s Killa Kyleon, one of Slim Thugg’s weed carriers, desecrating the “Roc Boys” beat. Someone should’ve told him that “Roc Boys” freestyles are so 2005.

Free Goes Gospel

freedom.jpg

Free, aka the only reason to watch 106 & Park back in the day, has decided to devote some of her time to the Lord’s work probably to atone for all her sins as a BET VJ. She was recently tapped as the co-host of a new Gospel Music Channel series, Bobby Jones Next Generation. Free will host the hour-long show alongside its originator Bobby Jones, in a bid to showcase musical performances by up and comers in the gospel music world.

Speaking of Free, I thought she had a shot at becoming a hip-hop commodity, at least back when Jay-Z still had his hand in the *cough, cough* cookie jar.

LA Times Apologizes for Fake Diddy-2Pac Story

2pac.jpg

If you’re among those who seriously believed that Diddy had anything to do with 2Pac’s 1994 shooting, then you got your April Fool’s a little early this year. The Smoking Gun examined documents used in the LA Times story and found that they were created by a convicted con man and rap fan notorious for exaggerating his place in the hip-hop world. They also noticed that the so-called FBI documents seemed phony because they were written on a typewriter instead of a computer. Apparently the dumbass who created the fake documents didn’t realize that feds stopped using typewriters 30 years ago.

They also found structural errors, grammatical deficiencies, phrases and acronyms that are inconsistent with FBI lingo, among other things.

Chuck Philips who did the story apologized on LAT’s website, saying: “In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job. I’m sorry.”

Diddy’s reading the retraction right now going “I told you so.” I’d be surprised if he doesn’t sue them for defamation or something.

50 Cent Leaves Blood on the Sand

50cent_game.jpg

Not getting enough 50 Cent in your life? Well, now you can. Following the success of Bulletproof, Boo Boo is back with yet another video game dubbed Blood on the Sand.

From MTV:

So what’s this “Blood on the Sand” stuff? Why is 50 wearing desert camo? The developers won’t say what 50 is doing in this game or where it takes place just yet. Blean will only explain that this “sequel” isn’t really a sequel. It doesn’t pick up the story of “Bulletproof,” which depicted a violent adventure imagining a 50 Cent who had never gone into music.

“Blood on the Sand” is something more exotic, more Hollywood blockbuster. This game sets 50’s character against a cabal of international gangsters on a far-flung, bullet-riddled adventure.

That’s right, Curtis is still on a mission to corrupt the minds of America’s children.

Jena 6 the Movie

jena-6.jpg

This documentary reeks of shameless blaxploitation.

Two nooses are left as a warning to black students trying to integrate their playground, fights break out across town, a white man pulls a shotgun on black students, someone burns down most of the school, the DA puts six black students on trial for attempted murder, and the quiet town of Jena becomes the site of the largest civil rights demonstration in the South since the 1960s. ‘The Jena 6′ is the story of hidden racial inequality and violence becoming visible. It is a powerful symbol for, and example of, how racial justice works in America – where the lynching noose has been replaced by the DA’s pen.

I’m all for racial equality, but the mentality of treating every black victim like Nelson Mandela has to stop. Take it from someone who vigorously campaigned for color-blind application of justice in the Jena 6 case, before CNN ever said a word about it.
