Gangsta Rap Flap: AK-47 Blames the Media

In response to the outrage over her “gangsta rap comments,” Alicia has released a statement blaming the media for misrepresenting her statement.

“Anyone who knows me and my character, knows that I am not a conspiracy theorist or, by implication, a racist. My comments about ‘gangsta rap’ were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music. The point that I was trying to make was that the term was over-sloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues.” [via: HipHopDX]

Actually, she said what people have been saying for years. So, I don’t get this desperation move by her camp. Sounds like an attempt to appease her fanbase. I ain’t mad at her, though. Mama gotta eat.

They tryin too take it back to when we couldn’t say anything. Back then they used the fear of getting our ass beat. Now if we speak against the gov. it’s racist? Soon we’ll be scared to speak up for fear of losing money, endorsements, jobs, homes, etc.
