I like how the “sureshot” dude at Iced Media was gracious enough to append instructions to the blast for this song: “If you don’t know about them yet don’t be a sucker and wait until EVERY other blogger and site is f*ckin’ wit them!”
I understand where he’s coming from, because it’s always tough for PR folks to get people to peep relatively unknown artists while they’re still relatively unknown. But why throw everyone in the same boat? If he took the time to research the targetted tastemakers, maybe he would’ve noticed that The Rap Up, for instance, is known for showing love to under-the-radar artists moreso than the established MCs.
Oh, in case you’re wondering about R.City, they’re Akon’s weed carriers trying to jumpstart a career by touting their credentials as Akon’s backup singers. Nothing wrong with that, it’s the way of the music industry. The song is decent, by the way.
Bonus
Rock City – “Losing It”
I’m not normally impressed when rappers toot their own horn a little too loud, but this “E! Channel” press release is beyond hilarious:
Elucid must have balls constructed of highly-polished, rust-resistant titanium to rap over the irresistible bop of Suzanne “Vega’s classic “Tom’s Diner.” Come on now. But like everything else he does, it works. Elucid spins a voyeuristic third-person narrative of infidelity witnessed from a window in his customary vivid poeticism.
Titanium balls, huh?
Update: khal is right, Elucid didn’t write that press release. Still funny though.
Wonder what the #1 major hip-hop label is cooking up for the Summer? I snuck into Def Jam’s secret safe, via telekinetic movement, to find out. Just for you. Here’s Def Jam’s Summer lineup for 2008.
Another Ne-Yo album? Does anyone even remember the last one?
Razah needs to give Rizoh a shout so we can do a collabo. We’ll have RZA produce it.
I dug GGGB, but this is a blatant attempt to sell us the same thing twice. Boooo!
Yeeeeeaaah!
Which ones are you excited about?
Ms. Nasti Muzik at her nastiest. More pics after the jump.
