1 Million And Running

Lil Wayne

Just like Kanye’s fans did last September, Weezy’s stans have come out to support their man in full swing. Tha Carter III is said to have topped 700,000 in sales and is expected to arrive at or near the 1 Million mark in its first full week. That’s a lot of CDs exchanging hands. Carter III’s already the top selling album in Canada for the week ending June 11.

Keep in mind that Tha Carter II sold 1.4 million overall. Now, we all know that Carter III pales in comparison to the outstanding Carter II. So, what’s going on here? Well, the French coined a word for this phenomenon back in the 1400s: loyalty. In other words, if you’re a Lil Wayne hater there’s nothing he could say or do to make you buy his album. But if you’re a Lil Wayne fan, there’s nothing he could say or do to keep you from buying his album.

Update: In its first week on the market, the rapper’s “Tha Carter III” sells just over 1 million units. The last album to top that milestone was 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” in March 2005. [via Billboard]

Just a sign that the world of Hip Hop is coming to an end…

2. Enigmatik Says:

I bought 5 copies of Carter 3. One to use as a frisbee, one to use as a coaster, one as a doorstop, one as a weed plate, and one to serve snacks on. (just kidding weezyites). I ain’t buy nan copy.

The world, period, is coming to an end. ‘preciate the etymology lesson as well, Rizoh!

He could just make a decent album, that would certainly make me consider spending a couple bucks. Carter 3 isn’t as wack as some people claim it is but it’s definitely a half-assed effort. Put the codeine down Weezy.

I thought i was theonly one that thought Tha Carter 2 was way better. Sad part is alot of good artist can’t seem to get that sort of loyalty from their fan base.

6. Mike Longpipe Says:

It’s a good album minus the song with Babyface and the other one with T-pain. I can’t even finish listening to those two.

“I’m rare like Mr Clean with hair”

I think there is some fuckery going on, EVERYONE I have asked about this CD say “it’s garbage”

I got a copy from a friend with the bootleg,he said it was trash and GAVE it to me, which I in turn did the same and gave it to someone else (I wouldn’t call it COMPLETE garbage tho)

Are Baby and Slim emptying the savings account on a couple hundred thousand copies? Or is it all the little kids who liked Lollipop?

Either way, trash hip-hop is still making money, and that’s dollar signs to these staunchy old white guys.

Expect a new Soulja Boy dance soon

As someone who has never actually sat down and listened to a Weezy album from start to finish, I was thinking about finally giving one of them a chance…

So my question is which album from his catalogue is Weezy’s best work?

9. GuapKid Says:

you should probably start with carter 1…i think thats his best work…his first album block is hot was pretty good too.

10. khal Says:

nah there’s cats who really feel this disc. i reviewed this album and gave it a 2 out of 5. i hardly get comments on my blog, but there was a decent amt of weezy stans telling me dude is spitting the best bars, that this cd is classic, that im ignorant and i do nothing for hip-hop.

11. jad Says:

i think his album is creative. he gives u some things that u wouldn’t even think of. like phone home or Dr.Carter. he tells good stories

12. ant Says:

” creative” and “like phone home or Dr.Carter. he tells good stories”

im glad the conversation stopped right there. let me pick it up.

really the only creative song on the joint is that. and its not really as creative as ppl would think…i man its not the first time a rapper used a concept for a song. (large pro “friendly game of baseball”, common i used to love h.e.r.”, kanye “windy city” or homecomming” , lupe “the cool”, nas “i gave you power” ” fetus” consequence “uncle rahiem” those joints will never get talked about…..sad shit man, and all of them are better than any creative shit that wayne codeined up……

13. Danny G Says:

Hardly a classic…but there are a few good ones on there. Let the Beat Build is fire.

14. Erock LAzron Says:

I never really listened to him before this album, but the beats alone are ridiculous.

I’m not gonna defend him, but I’ve been digging alot of this disc. Especially the first two tracks, “Phone Home”, “Dr. Carter” and basically all the Kanye beats.

And I didn’t pay for it, so I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks of it

15. esbee Says:

When you have a devoted fan base or have been able to secure some kind of fan base, this is the kind of loyalty they’ll continue to show each time out…I’m sort of not surprised. I mean Weezy-hype has been an almost year long experience, the DJ call out notwithstanding.

16. Reckless Says:

I’m a Lil Whoopie hater! Forever!

17. Lil Wayne Thanks You for Buying ‘Tha Carter III’ | The Rap Up Says:

[...] Little Weezy thanks his fans for helping him sell a millie, a millie, a millie… [...]

18. Walter Says:

Wow, this is just quite ridiculous…I went ahead and downloaded it, and…it wasn’t even worth the bandwidth I used dling it…

There were some ok joints on there, but really? Dude isn’t nice.

19. GOS doG Says:

Beats are insane and his swagger is on point.

Defn not a classic but if you say the album succs your hatin hard.

Kanyes album was pretty much the same musical shit, ppl just respect him more because they werent expecting a rapper and he proved them wrong. But even Kanye knows hes no wayne on the mic
