RIAA Shuts Down Muxtape

The RIAA has shut down Muxtape.com, a free streaming music website that allows users to create their own 12-song mixtapes. Hordes of music lovers flooded the site with compilations that included copyrighted music. Even Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes got in on the fun. The only thing left of the site now is a message simply stating, “Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA.”

There’s no word on how long the shutdown is expected to last, but the Muxtape blog has a status update on the issue: “No artists or labels have complained. The site is not closed indefinitely.”

So, here’s the deal: If you’ve been uploading some major label music to Muxtape’s servers, you might want to start making travel arrangements to Anguilla while you still have a chance. Either that or you could find someone to sneak you into Harvard.

That is so retarded. Why would you listen to muxtape and then use that as your only source of music? The music wasn’t the best quality, you could only find select songs–so finding a whole album for me was impossible. I still buy and steal music. It was no different during and before muxtape existed. I only used it for my myspace for my friends to listen to. It wasn’t stealing music or hurting record sales. The RIAA can go to hell. Musicians get the smallest amount of money from the music THEY MAKE! Fuck the record companies. Musicians need to stand up for themselves and fight the beast.
