Colin Powell Catches Obamamania

Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama today during an appearance on Meet the Press. Powell described Obama as a transformational figure and dismissed McCain as a different face on the same ol’ “Republican agenda.” I’m not surprised by Powell’s endorsement, considering that he always seemed like the odd man in the Bush cabinet. He pretty much walked away from that sinking ship with his integrity intact.

By the way, I’m eager to hear what everyone has to say about that new Oliver Stone movie, W. My main gripe with the movie was that it left out crucial aspects of the Bush story and rehashed the ones we already knew. In the case of Colin Powell (played by Jeffrey Wright), he was pressured to serve up a plate of cooked intelligence to the U.N. as justification for the Iraq War, despite his strong opposition to the idea.

So I still haven’t forgiven him for getting us into Iraq (he was very pivotal in selling the war to congress) but this at least puts him on the path to redemption. Maybe he’ll serve in the Obama administration?
