Hip-Hop Hearts Obama in Florida
With just 24 hours left before the most historic election of our time, it’s no news that political awareness is at an all time high. More significantly, hip-hoppers are high on Barack Obama. Many of them took the stage in front of about 800 people at the Chester Robinson Athletic Center at Florida Memorial University for a “Last Chance for Change” rally yesterday. In attendance were Jay-Z, Diddy, Kevin Liiles, Russell Simmons, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, and many more.
See some Kodak moments, as well as one troubling comment from Kevin Liles, after the cut .
Diddy
“It’s bigger than us. We have to do it for our children, we have to do it for the people that died for us to have the right to vote.”
Mary J Blige
“We have been doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Please do something different. Barack Obama is a true example of something different. He’s a true example of something our children can have in the future, what they can look at and say: ‘Wow, we can really, really do something. We can really, really be something.’”
Kevin Liles:
“We stood in line to get the new Lil’ Wayne CD (Whaaa???). We stood in line to get a new pair of Jordans. We stood in line to get in here. So we ain’t afraid of no lines.”
On a side note, Obama’s grandmother has lost her battle with cancer. She was 86.
