Ill Bill - “My Uncle” Music Video

“My Uncle,” off Ill Bill’s The Hour of Reprisal, takes an uncompromising look at his relationship with one of the most influential individuals in the MC’s life; his Uncle Howie.

Says Bill:

“When I was a kid, I looked up to Howie. My parents split when I was little and my mom was at work all the time. My grandmother raised me and my uncle was always around. Now that I’m older, I know that he was a heroin addict with all kinds of severe issues but as a kid, I had no idea what heroin addiction was.”

The video was directed by Adam Calfee, who has also experienced the pain of addiction in his own family.

The song alone is powerful, but the video really adds to it. Bill and Necro did a lot for Howie, who can’t kick the habit.

I’ve only a passing familiarity with Ill Bill’s work, I have one of his albums somewhere around here. But it seems like this Uncle Howie of his was a big part of their life, and you can tell from the raw emotion of this rebuke.
