Q-Tip Names Top 3 Rappers Of All Time

In case you needed further proof that Q-Tip knows his hip-hop. Anyone who puts Rakim in the Top 3 is alright with me. “Just because you say you’re the greatest doesn’t mean you are.” Weezyiana, he’s looking at you.

On a side note, The Renaissance is a contender for Rap Album of the Year.

didnt even mention pac are l

2. Walter Says:

Obv he’s from the East Coast, there’s no point in mentioning Pac as the third when Biggie was still available…

Although, considering Biggie’s body of work, I’m not sure if he should’ve put Biggie’s name in there with Slick Rick and Rakim…maybe KRS-One would’ve been a better pick

3. Dave from the Chi Says:

slick rick is a VERY interesting choice, not that I disagree with it. I just think uncle ricky is usually left out of this group. I think it’s ultimately stupid to try to rank a top 3 since theres so many equals. How can you say Rakim is better than KRS, or slick rick is better than someone like Nas?

I agree that “best rapper” lists are usually unhelpful, especially when they only have 3 spots.

That said, I do appreciate the shout out for Slick Rick who I think is one of the best (if not the best) rap storyteller of all-time

I agree. If he’s down with Rakim Allah, then we’re good.

And Tip is right about calling yourself the G.O.A.T. There was a time when you’d be laughed out of the building if ANYONE tried to claim that on the mic.

And Ricky was the original king of Swagger. Respect.

Rick the Ruler doesn’t nearly get mentioned enough in lists like this, Tip is on point. I wholeheartedly agree on The Renaissance, I’ve got it on repeat since I first checked it last sunday.

7. 22-Twos Says:

This list is actually quite true,
Rakim- best lyricist
Biggie- best wordplay
Slick Rick- best storyteller

Although I think you’ll find all three qualities in Nas, but thats my opinion.

Rappers who should not be on top-10 lists-

1. nas- too many sloppy, not-profound verses and bad songs

2. jay-z- poor charisma, no interesting ideas behind his songs, generally unappealing personality

who should be but are not-

AG, Dres, Grand Daddy I.U., Sean Price, grand puba. tash from alkaholiks

and #1- eminem. no contest. listen to renegade on the blue print. anyone who puts jay-z in the same sentence with eminem after that song- out to lunch.
