 December 30th, 2008 at 3:10 pm I agree that it’s not fair to compare “Payback” with “Love Lockdown,” but your defiant support for 808s & Heartbreak is mind-boggling. Just so we’re clear, no one’s mad at Ye for dropping a pop album — like I’ve said before, 808s isn’t as terrible as people make it out to be. What most people take issue with is the poor quality of the album. Andre 3000 dropped an album with little to no rapping, but it wasn’t — to borrow your screen name — aaasss. And I say this as someone who bought hard copies of Kanye’s first 2 albums. I didn’t buy the 3rd one because the folks at Def Jam were kind enough to send me a copy. Of course, I inadvertently excised myself from their list of good guys by speaking ill of Def Jam artists, but that’s another story. One thing that, I think, gets lost on blog readers is that when you dole out constructive criticism, it’s because you care about the artist in question and want to see them get better. That’s how you keep the game moving forward. |
