Kanye West – “Payback”

Kanye West – “Payback”

Andrew unearthed this rare Kanye joint from way back when Steve Francis was still “The Franchise” (”We can get it jumping like Francis in Houston”). I have to say, ‘Ye’s flow went through one hell of a transformation to arrive at this. [Fake Shore Drive]

You niggas act like he stopped rapping or something. Putting out an album that isn’t of the same genre as your last 4 (Or 3? I dunno) isn’t a “terrible transformation.” It’s doing something new. The rap album is coming out eventually, stop crying.

I agree that it’s not fair to compare “Payback” with “Love Lockdown,” but your defiant support for 808s & Heartbreak is mind-boggling.

Just so we’re clear, no one’s mad at Ye for dropping a pop album — like I’ve said before, 808s isn’t as terrible as people make it out to be. What most people take issue with is the poor quality of the album. Andre 3000 dropped an album with little to no rapping, but it wasn’t — to borrow your screen name — aaasss. And I say this as someone who bought hard copies of Kanye’s first 2 albums. I didn’t buy the 3rd one because the folks at Def Jam were kind enough to send me a copy. Of course, I inadvertently excised myself from their list of good guys by speaking ill of Def Jam artists, but that’s another story.

One thing that, I think, gets lost on blog readers is that when you dole out constructive criticism, it’s because you care about the artist in question and want to see them get better. That’s how you keep the game moving forward.

I wish people would stop cryin’ about how other people are supposedly crying about ‘Ye’s weak album. People didn’t like it, and so they’re gonna talk about how they didn’t like it. Man up and let ‘Ye defend his damn self. I don’t even see anything negative written in this post about Auto-Tune Heartbreak…

yo riz you have expressed my views exactly! Im not mad at kanye for dropping an experimental pop album where he sings, Im mad at kanye because its not a very good one! And I’m not “mad” at him really, let him do his thing, I’m just not jumping on his nuts and saying its a fire album, because it isnt.

Riz’s comparison to Andre3000 is apt here. Andre’s joint was brilliant. And his attempts at singing are far more successful than Ye’s.

Man Ye’s 808s album was nice. Yeah it was different, but people need to broaden their views on things…just cause something is different doesn’t mean it sucks.

7. Rick. Says:

It’s different AND it sucks.

8. Rick Says:

HAHAHA Disregard that, I suck cocks.
