Jimmy Fallon Introduces Late Night House Band…The Roots!

Yup, it’s official. The Roots will indeed be Jimmy Fallon’s house band when he takes over The Late Night Show come 2009. It’ll be interesting to see what type of impact (if any) this will have on the Roots’ touring schedule. A couple years ago when I asked ?uestlove how long he thought the Roots had left as a group, he made it clear that they’d be touring well into their 70s: “Rich [Nichols] thinks we have four more relevant records in us, before we become the Neville Brothers or the Rolling Stones of hip-hop.”

At any rate, this is a good look for hip-hop’s greatest band.

Sure I hate Fallon (who doesn’t), but the banter with the bandmates will be markedly better than Kevin Eubanks guffawing or Paul Schafer not shutting up.

[...] ?uestlove wrote about it in his blog a couple weeks back but then all record of his claim that The Roots were going to become the new houseband for NBC’s famed “The Late Night Show” were erased. But now it’s official. Jimmy Fallon, future host for “The Late Night Show” in March 2009 officially introduced The Roots as the new house band in this clip. Is this a good move for them? One thing is for sure, they at least will have a steady job and can take advantage of their newfound mainstream exposure. Via: The Rap Up [...]

Jimmy Fallon and his wife first met The Roots last Memorial Day Weekend when they performed at the Jazz Reggae Festival @ UCLA. The Roots played an amazing set, and Fallon instantly hit it off with them backstage. They’ve been in touch ever since, and now The Roots are Fallon’s in house band for his late night TV show
