WTF, No Charles Hamilton? ALL of his mixtapes could’ve of made that list and The Pink Lavalamp could’ve made top 10 Album. but it was made around 2 years ago… but still. Where is Charles Hamilton at?

John M. Says:
Hamilton’s mad corny

Where the hell is Ludacris?! Jeezy too but more so Luda.

DaBonks Says:
Wow, would have never thought that I would agree with so much on this list.
Most importantly is the love for Royal Flush and especially ESOTSM: The Pledge. That is just magical lyricism and beat-making.
Good to see Q-Tip get it for best album, but no other deserves it.
|
| 6. |
B3N Says:
No T.I.! Yay! T.I. sucks. No Ludacris? Yay! Luda only had two hot joints on that album anyway.
Atmosphere! Yes’r. Brother Ali and Freeway on the Jake One beat! Yes’r. And Q-Tip! Perhaps he’s not MY choice for #1, but Q is HOT.
Lil’ Weezy gets no nods. Sad!
Great lists, my man!

[...] * The Rap Up’s 3rd Most Disappointing Rap Album of 2008: Lil’ Wayne – Tha Carter III. Hey — I’m guilty of not having listened to this album — or anything by Lil’ Wayne. When did “Lil’” become the rap name of choice, by the way? It used to be “MC” — Young MC, MC Hammer, MC Lyte, MC Search, MCA, etc.Β And now? Lil’ Wayne, Lil’ Jon, Lil’ Bow Wow… Even Lil’ Kim must be pushing fifty by now!Β I guess it’s just a sign that I’m getting old. Or big. Whatever. I for one enjoyed HNIC 2, and whats up with Estelle being on the top rap albums? I think she’d fit better in top non-rap albums seeing as she’s not a rapper…otherwise good lists tho
|
| 13. |
Rizoh Says:
Actually, Estelle IS a rapper (and singer). Her album is dope and I think she deserves major props for crafting the best hybrid of rap and r&b since L’Boogie.

Dave Says:
5 of my top 10 CD’s matched yours. Im surprised you didnt have the Johnson and Johnson CD on your top 10. Biggest disappointments were right on point, all those CD’s were huge flops. Good lists, I like your non hip hop cd’s as well. And I’m glad you gave Jay electronica some props.

NYHC81 Says:
H.N.I.C. 2 was 2008’s top ten WORST? are you kidding? and Gza’s album top 10 BEST? I think you have those two switched. 9th Prince’s album was hotter than Pro-Tools.

Nice to see that top 10 non-rap album list. The TV on the Radio album is absolutely fantastic, glad you agreed Riz.

Nice lists Rizoh, but I definitely didn’t hate Common’s album as much as you did LOL
I also think GZA’s was disappointing, and think Black Milk deserves a top 5 nod, Tronic is dooooope.

What about “to the top (stick to the script)” with cassidy, termanology and saigon. No top 10 there? I’m pretty sure you could omit “day n night” to make room for it.

Solid lists but a few comments:
In full ‘agreeance’ with your #1 and 2 most disappointing albums.
The N-gger mixtape and album were both artistic under-performers IMHO.
U classify Estelle as a full-on hip hop album? Interesting…
Dr.Carter > A Milli??!!!
When do you have time to listen to so many non hip hop albums?!

@Ian: I have a wildly eccletic taste in music. Trust me, you really don’t want to know what else I listen to.
@S.E.V.: Fleet Foxes EP came out in 2006, but the self-titled LP dropped in 2008. I listen to it because it’s refreshing as fuck. You should try it sometime.

Hey Rizoh, does rap.about.com steal from you or you from them? This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed you have the same lists as them, last time I thought they jacked from you but this time I don’t know which came first. Unless you are Henry Adaso, lol.
