Where Were You When Obama Became President?

I missed part of Obama’s inauguration because I was too busy throwing shoes at the TV as George Bush hopped into Executive One and fled back home to Texas. You would do the same too if you learned that Dubya was going to spend the rest of his post-presidential days in your home state. I stopped throwing shoes just in time to see 2 Harvard graduates bumble through the Oath of Office.

I then reached out to some of your favorite rappers and DJs to find out what they were doing when Barack Obama officially became El Presidente and the significance of Obama’s victory. Their responses range from compelling to comical. Take a look. You’re also welcome to share your own experiences, as long as they don’t include tales of sexual trysts.

Mickey Factz:

“I was in the crib, watching him on the Flat Screen. It looked cold in D.C.”

Donny Goines:

“I was in the gym working out. Honestly I didn’t catch it but I am sure it was a sight to behold.”

Phonte:

“I was at home with my family.”

Madd Hatta:

“I shared the historic moment with co-workers.”

Nina B:

“When Obama was sworn into office, I was with my mother who never thought she’d see this day and one of my sisters in Brooklyn. We were hanging onto every word. But I’ll admit I was afraid for his life.”

Yo Gotti:

“I was in Memphis Tennesee, celebrating with all of my friends and family.”

MC Rukus:

“I was where millions of Americans were: I was keeping myself employed at my 9 – 5. There were no special provisions to watch the inauguration and naturally I had alot of work to catch up on. As incredible and historic a date as this was, I think millions of Americans need to know that the “change” starts with us – working hard, pushing ourselves to do better, and just trying to be better people each day…its cliche, but its truth.”

Soulbrotha:

“I was on campus sorting out some school-related stuff.”

Jake One: “At home watching on TV.”

Bavu Blakes:

“I was driving to take the test to get my chauffeur permit. I’m looking to drive a cab for extra cash. My wife was mad that I was leaving during the ceremony, but I was like, ‘You know they gon’ have a lotta reruns.’ “

Mick Boogie:

“I was in the Jacuzzi…relaxing.”

I was in the Mall in Washington DC, numb and fearing frost-bite, but it was worth it.

I was sitting in school watching it in the auditorium. I thought it was pretty cool that the entire high school took a break from the regular stuff to watch Obama go into office.

I was totally crying like a baby on my couch, computer in my lap – a woman had to work too!

I’ll never forget it.

It was wonderful.
