Rick Rawse Rains on Asher Roth’s Parade

Despite all the publicity Asher Roth enjoyed from his apparent obsession with nappy-headed hoes, his debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle only managed a moderate 65,000 copies in its first week. That was good enough to land A-Roth at No.5, behind Depeche Mode, Rascal Flatts, and the Miley Cyrus sountrack. The Bawse, on the other hand, easily cruised to numero uno with 158,000 units. I hate how they marketed mr. roth. He’s got some actual skills, but became a goddamn one track artist because his effin marketing team never captured the bounce he got from I love college. I at first automatically dismissed him as a white rapper, but after seeing the 20 min freestyle in London, I was a believer. And his album is solid, not great, but no one knows ANY of his other songs. Effin marketing.
Also, the BAWSE actually has some really good cuts on his album…because of all of the ill producers and collabs who jumped on his ish.

Boss outsells Jadakiss too? Hm.

I was expecting more from Ross, the album is nice but it’s too commercial with all that chick music, so i must ask: Is he doing a 50?

lol c’mon man…sooooo if Def Jam bought units…whose to say the other labels aren’t doin the same??? just face it, dude weathered the storm and came up wit a standard success..not an extraordinary success..but a success none the less. I hope nobody really thought Asher Roth was gonna do any better than what he did..please dont forget that he’s literally a brand new artist in the game..give him time and we’ll see whaat he’s really worth.

Lol you can blame his marketing team all you want. The fact remains that Asher Roth doesn’t fully understand hip hop and its fundamentals. He’s just a sub-par rapper. Asher’s made white rappers look like idiots again, thank god Em’s coming back.

That college song is terrible (even my 16 year old sister thinks its a joke) Asher isn’t an MC and probably doesnt even know who Kool G Rap, or KRS-One is. He’s just some suburban kid that thought he could rap. What a joke.
