Rakim – Holy Are You

Rakim – Holy Are You

OK, Ra, you got me. I give up. I’m starting believe that 7th Seal actually exists. I know it’s been a long time you shouldn’t have left us without a dope beat to step to, but it was worth the wait.

I have no idea who produced “Holy Are You,” but that David Axelrod sample is off the pliers.

Sorry, ladies. I gave my word that I won’t leak the mp3, so a stream would have to do for now. Just remember where you heard it first. Enjoy!

I ain’t felling the track at all!!!!! I have lost all respect for Rakim!!!! Yes he is a dope a Emcee. He has a very impressive flow but, I can’t call him the GOD emcee….!!!! There is only one God. The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob!!! If he is so against God, why would he use a sample from a Christian worship song. Dude went to far on this one…. I will have to keep praying for him.

11. DAME~T'SEDEQ Says:

Its a shame dudes still get caught up in the G.O.D. concept. If you know your bible refer to John 10:34 where Y’Shuah proclaims Ye are Gods.. So how is he against God… but i didnt even come here for that.. i dont rock with religion its deceitful.. But as for the GOD RAKIM ALLAH im glad he’s back with the lyrical content.. Looking forward to more material…

Okay, please stop listening to Nas and Rakim because they use the word God. I’ll have a great time banging good hiphop and basking in the warm glow of enlightenment and rationality. It is Bastille Day after all.

I want to call this a good track, but I’m heavily biased towards the g.o.d. MC so…

i like the song is great. i love the sample at the beginning which helps for people who have forgotten who the greastest m.c. of all time is. without rakim setting a standard for hip hop i dont think we would have other great m.c.s in the game. if you dont believe he was ahead of his time, get the single microphone fiend. and after listening to that song if u still dont believe then u truly do not know what hip hop is

Banger but then again i’m biased I love ra so sue me. By the way, please stop with the god references meaning this or that. Ever been to a Jay-Z concert?? No one has a bigger “God” complex then that dude. He gets twenty thousand minions to scream “Hova Hova” every time he walks on the stage. Its not that serious.

On the “god” topic, if anyone wants a good read on the influence of Muslim culture on hip hop, check out a book by Michael Muhammad Knight called “The Five Percenters.”

This is the diamond era of Ra! Time+Knowledge+Science= Wisdom! The experiments r over, now the sound, message n flow, have symmetry. I’m also glad folks are still askin how can a man call himself GOD? Because now brothers with the knowledge can guide! All this from one track.
Peace to the GOD MC, Rakim.

Hands down the greatest!!!!!!! He should be highlighted by this site. He is why there is others….I do wish he would change his flow up sometimes. Go with the beat like 11 said. I am the biggest God fan. My children love him.My 19 year old daughter down to my 3 year old son kno wthe god. So i feel i can say this. Please RA Sometimes just sometimes flow with the beat. that being said this track is what i have been waiting for. THANK YOU RAKIM

john 10 verse 34 my bad but also psalms 82 it’s in the scripts then you know why rakim says god so much

32. 5tunner Says:

Well, I’ve been a long-tiime fan of Ra, but dude is spitting the same rhyme schemes and words since 97. Gods, Pharoahs in ghetto apparrels, Egypt etc. etc. He just keeps repeating himself, so that the whole phrases start sounding empty to me.

He has nothing new and importatnt to say anymore. He’s just doing what everybody else from the golden age is trying to do: achieving something by self-iconizing and claiming a status (god mc) which they earned and held down back in the days, but can’t claim nowadays – it’s 2009. I don’t know if you’ve been sleeping the last 12 years, but there’s been a lot going on a lot more which could be discussed about, than that. There’s a difference between saying I am a rhyme god and proofing it. The beat is great, though.

Sorry, but it is what it is: Ra needs to put the mic down.

How about we appreciate the many forms of hip hop? I washed up rapper whether on beat off beat could not have flowed the way Ra flowed. Lyrically he is still before his time, I doubt that any current rapper could go the distance with him.

36. Nepharius Says:

I can’t get this track off repeat, that intro is tight as hell.

37. mark jones Says:

Peace its about time the GOD is back and hes the true G.O.A.T so to all you bonafide crack heads stop hating First of all Dr Dre was stupid for not working with rakim, how can you work with people with no lyrics but people with lyrics you cant do nothing with, for example nas foxy coremega nature and the firm flop and he didnt want to work with michael jackson but he could work with 50 what a joke dre should let gangsta rap go what happen to been there done that

38. hiphopgame Says:

its so crazy to see all of these hip hop artists sampling the axe man. david axelrod’s music will always live on, and sounds pretty fuckin good with rakim rappin over it. good shit for sure. all dues to the maestro should be given for his amazing music that keeps on gettin sampled by some of todays greatest in rap and hip hop.

39. Anonymous Says:

Yo i cannot agree with this man. The song is beautiful…….almost too beautiful but something just dont sit right in my heart when he calls himself God. I mean if he came to rap then why does he have to go against God principles to get the job done? I feel that if i wanted to call myself anything i would take it one step down from God…..thats a bit too much. then it becomes a selfishness ……..and the devil wanted to be God so why if u read this why would u try to re-enact the movement and say that you’ve been around since genesis and its continues…….man those statements can be taken so many ways….i hope someone interviews him on how he feels about God…..maybe then i could feel it more.

40. wisewordz Says:

my goodness..i can’t believe the hating thats going on in here. Rakim..hands down one of the greatest emcess 2 ever bless a mic..probably one of the reasons half of the rappers that get idolized today ever picked up a mic..i.e. pac, biggie, jay-z, nas, pun, big l, mos def, kweli, n i can go on and on..u guys see it in all there lyrics..men who even put ra in they rhymes giving love and showing real love..and then to hear this new generation belittle a man over one track..by the way the track is nyce..good sample n smooth lyrics that hit hard. Pay attention to the lyrics ppl..if anyone can bring the new genra back to its golden age and redefine this movement its this man..he doesn’t claim allegiance to a label..doesn’t have to have street cred to know he’s seen the grimy..he understands the world around him and knows where its headed if one doesnt atleast try to speak to the masses. and on the topic of God emcee..rappers use it all the time from Nas Jay..they call each other god an east coast slang but suddenly when ra uses it it gets slandered? wtf? U ppl are exactly what the problem is..u can go ahead and critique and criticize but damn to shift a god issue on a man..so what about his beliefs..we all here in the u.s. of a because we allowed to have our own religion and observe it preach it if we want to. But the one time a man puts it out there n rhyming like that..breaking it down in lyrics like that..a science like that..and ya’ll hate! get the hell over ur damn selves he just doin his thing n rappin his beliefs its his ‘god-given’ right 2 do so lol! but be real ppl half the rappers u luv look up to him got in the game because of him..give him his due and let him be..go listen to sum new south dance gimmick club banger n be happy! have a nyce day =D
