TRU Brain Trust Debates the Best MC in Slaughterhouse

slaughterhouse-artwork

Slaughterhouse may be the first hip-hop group with no real weak link. Joell, Royce, Joey, and Crooked are all capable of holding down an entire album. Together, they’re deadly. So, rather than debate the weakest link, we decided to debate the strongest. Proceed for our thoughts on the question, “Who’s the best MC in Slaughterhouse?” Each entry is followed by a list of the best Slaughterhouse MCs ranked in order of superiority. – Rizoh

Dive in.

Ivan:
Royce da 5′9″ is the veteran of the group, with credentials that includes holding his own alongside Eminem at his peak. ‘Nuff said.
1. Royce Da 5′9″
2. Joell Ortiz
3. Crooked I
4. Joe Budden

Black Barbie:
Everyone in Slaughterhouse is nice but if I had to pick, it would be Joell Ortiz, because he had some quotables that made me have to stop and rewind some tracks in amazement. I was definitely sleeping on him.
1. Joell Ortiz
2. Royce
3. Joe Budden
4. Crooked I
(This was hard dammit!)

Jaap:
All are sick, but Royce da 5′9″, the head of this Voltron, has the most commanding and mic-hungry voice and delivery.
1. Royce Da 5′9
2. Joell Ortiz
3. Crooked I
4. Joe Budden

Dom Corleone:
Why Royce? Consistency. He’s the most complete MC, swiftly maneuvering between abrasive battle raps and astute verbal acrobatics. The others are dope, but competition within the crew has elevated Nickle Nine to the height of his ability.. Finally!
1. Royce Da 5′9
2. Joell Ortiz
3. Joe Budden
4. Crooked I

Andrew:
The best rapper in Slaughterhouse is Joell Ortiz. Lyrically, he’s consistently able to write songs with structure, decent content and infuse them with, at the very least, moderate wordplay. He isn’t always able to fit his flow to a beat, as he’s better with slower, deeper tracks, but overall he’s the most solid emcee in the crew.
1. Joell Ortiz
2. Crooked I
3. Royce Da 5′9
4. Joe Budden

Nahshon
Joell Ortiz is the most talented in the group because he has the most consistently complex flow and storytelling ability (Rivaled only by Royce.)
1. Joell Ortiz
2. Royce da 5′9
3. Joe Budden
4. Crooked I

Rizoh:
What separates Royce from the pack is that he’s the only one with enough stripes to be mentioned among the Top 50 MCs of all-time.
1. Royce da 5′9″
2. Crooked I
3. Joell Ortiz
4. Joe Budden

Overall Winner: Royce da 5′9″ (4 1st Place Votes)

Runner-up: Joell Ortiz (3 1st Place Votes)

when you see Joe Budden as lyrically the weakest of a group…you know you got something epic…cop this album

2. A-King Says:

Fair assesment. Crooked is my fav but it seems like he took it down a notch which allowed the others to have their moments.

3. Jack_MTHH Says:

*co-signs Nahshon’s list*

4. Da Says:

that slaughterhouse cover speaks “who can rock a fitted the best”

5. Ivan Says:

^ LOL. Definitely Crook.

6. georgeburns Says:

agree with those who said joell was 1st, royce 2nd, buddens 3rd, and crook in 4th….although buddens is my favorite, he just doesnt have the talent of joell and royce…crooked has some of the filthiest quotables but hes good for a corny line about once every 3 songs

7. georgeburns Says:

with that said…saying crooked i is the worst in a group says a lot to the abilities of that group

Illmatic620 Says:

I’m tempted to agree, but on “Warfare” didn’t Joe Budden just bury Ortiz lyrically?

9. georgeburns Says:

10. DMK Says:

“Im the shit man and yall aint even passing gas”

WHOA.. JOELL IS SO DOPE.. Nothing complex about most of the shit he says

11. Still Slept On....... Says:

Not one top vote for Crooked I? Wack!!!!!!!! He’s the best in the game right now. I admit Royce has been a beast ever since that shit happened with Mr. Fab. He and Crooked are by far the best in the group. Joell is nice and Joe Budden shouldn’t even be in the group.

12. Anonymous Says:

CROOKED IS THE BEST MC IN SLAUGHTERHOUSE, EVEN ROYCE CALLED HIM THE BEST LINE FOR LINE.

13. HipHop4Lyfe Says:

I agree Nickel rocks the #1 spot, but the spot could easily be given to Joell. Crooked holds his own and just need to give us more substance. Joes the odd man out(Although I did like his contribution to “Pray”).My opinion is this is a 3 man group.

14. Dom Corleone Says:

I just noticed.. Why the FUCK is Budden rockin’ a Redwings hat? Blasphemy!

16. B U Allah Says:

This group is GOOD. On this production all these cats do their thing. Since I’ve heard them all freestyle it’s hard to say who’s the weak link. But for the sake of this album I agree with Rizoh.

17. Best Rapper Alive? « Hold the Throne Says:

[...] Nickel Nine, however, is undoubtedly among the elite especially with his newfound second wind, leading Slaughterhouse and pumping out one of the illest albums of ‘09 in Street [...]
