Obama might actually be too kind and moderate and other countries, like Russia, could see it as a weakness.

Only in America – could a nation’s leader win the Nobel Peace Prize and half the population disagrees with it.
If Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama doesn’t get re-elected when his term is up, when Bush was, people are going to seriously question how intelligent you want your leader to be.

Why is it that when people bring out the international boogieman, it’s either Russia or China, when neither has much to gain by making an enemy out of us?

Walter, It is because recently there has been a lot of talk about Russia in the news and if they could be a potential threat. I wasn’t just throwing out a countries name like that.

Also, people just assume that Obama is intelligent and much smarter than Bush. I’m not saying I disagree with that, I’m just saying that I don’t really know Obama that well at all. He hasn’t really “changed” this country much at all. He said, the first day he became president, that in five days we would see drastic change in America. All I’ve seen is a 9 TRILLION doller deficit and trying to pass a health care plan that seems somewhat flawed (even though I do believe in having a public option). I dunno, this is just my opinion, correct me if I’m wrong.

Jake – I’m not trying to correct anything either, I mean to each his or her own. Opinions are like a$$holes.
However, according to wikipedia (albeit not the most reliable of sources):
“In 2006, a study based on varied and often subjective historical material analyzed with the tools of historiometry was published in the journal Political Psychology. It estimated IQs for all US presidents since 1900. It rated G.W. Bush second to last, with an estimated IQ of 125 (with the estimate ranging from 111 to 139; the standard average for all people is 100).”
Compare that with the fact that Mr. Obama attended at Harvard Law School. Although surely academia is only one measure of intelligence, such an accomplishment can’t be ignored.
I suppose the root of my original post was simply that even when Mr. Obama has been recognized by a prestigious world-wide body such as the Nobel Foundation, Americans seem extremely quick to denounce him. Perhaps, in addition, more quickly than they were able to denounce the faulty decision-making of Mr. Bush.
To the health care debate, that’s another can of worms… As a Canadian, I’d reserve comment. Y’all need to work something out.

Walter Says:
@ Jake
First of all, the guy hasn’t even finished one year yet, and people are still whining about him not completely reversing 8 years of policy and the consequences of said policy. That makes no sense to me at all. In addition, unlike during FDR’s first term, where he was pretty much given leeway to do anything he felt necessary, Obama has had staunch opposition to everything he’s tried to do.
Lastly, in regards to Russia, you tell me, Jake. What does Russia have to gain from doing anything that would harm us? I’ll wait as long as it takes for you to come up with something, because, simply put, there is nothing they can gain other than more enemies. The world’s current climate doesn’t favor any nation that chooses to take actions that explicitly harm another nation (even America isn’t exempt from this).

walter, this post is originally about whether obama deserved it….and becasue of the fact that he hasnt finished one year yet, some of us dont believe he is deserving as of yet…so i agree with you in the fact that we should all give the guy some time, however i do have to admit that he has let me down some thus far.

If Bush hadn’t been such a crappy President, I don’t think we would’ve labeled Obama such an awesome President, he probably would’ve been more a “normal” President. Still, it’s a “peace” prize, and just by not allowing warmongering republicans to win he’s already contributed to the peace process.
