No Answers in Memphis: Iverson Leaves Grizzlies

Iverson_Grizzlies

After a tumultuous start with the Grizzlies, Allen Iverson may already be on his way out of Memphis. Allen Iverson took an indefinite leave of absence from the team today, following a meeting with the team’s owner Michael Heisley and Coach Lionel Hollins. Word on the street is that he may be gone for good. The Grizzlies didn’t want to deal with AI’s insistence that he be put in the starting lineup.

Iverson signed with Memphis in the offseason for 1 yr/$3.5 Million. He only played 3 games this season. If you do the math, that amounts to roughly $1 Million per game. Yikes!

Though AI is a prolific scorer, I have my doubts about his ability to make a team better at this stage in his career. I hate to be the one bemoaning the obvious. I’d rather be the guy on the keyboard when Iverson finally realizes that there’s no “I” in team. But that’s probably never going to happen.

The Grizzlies will still be a solid team without A.I., which raises questions about Memphis’ decision to recruit him in the first place. They brought him in to sell tickets. Period.

AI’s right though. How you gonna sign a player of his caliber to a team with very little talent and NOT put him in the starting lineup?

What yall forget is that NOBODY …..I repeat NOBODY wanted him, which is why he signed in Memphis and he was LUCKY to get that deal.

What a little bitch though, if you think you should be starting then come off the bench and light sh1t up, then make the coach say we gotta start AI

Solid team without AI? That team was going to suck with or without AI.

Notice I said “solid” not “good”? They didn’t bring AI in for his remarkable locker room presence, so the team wasn’t going to benefit in that area. They didn’t bring him in for his top-notch defense, because there’s no such thing. They didn’t bring him in for his scoring. Mayo and Gay can drop 25 or 30 on a good night. So, AI or no AI, Grizzlies would be who they are.
