Analyze Dis: Nas Going at 50 on Queens Get The Money?

50 cent

Nas has adopted a new tradition of dissing at least one arch-nemesis within the first 3 minutes of his albums. On Hip-Hop Is Dead’s introductory track, “Money of Bullsh*t,” he went at Jim Jones with “Put a barrel in the Capo mouth.” Now, he’s taking aim at fellow Queens MC, 50 Cent on “Queens Get the Money,” which happens to be Untitiled’s opening track.

There must be an inside joke being passed around within the anti-Boo Boo circle of MCs. Common clearly dissed 50 and G-Unit on his last album’s intro. Now, Nas is doing the same exact thing, even borrowing some of Com’s words. Peep the full lyrics and decide for yourself if it’s a shot or not.

This isn’t the first time Joey has thrown rocks at Jay’s throne, but this is the most intense of all his subliminals. It’s not an effective battle track because Budden is too much of a fan to really rip Hov apart. However, it contains some comical jewels here and there, which makes it a solid candidate for our Analyze Dis section: (more…)

Best Song on American Gangster?

I was hooked on “No Hook” and “American Dreamin’” for a while. Then I gave “Fallin’” another listen, Verse tres to be precise. Suddenly, I realized what has happening to me. It dawned on me that I was being transported onto diss-ney land. Then Jermaine Dupri’s voice came down from above and said: “Fallin’ is more than just a song, Rizoh”

I’ll show you what I’m blabbing about. Walk with me (more…)

“I told Jay I did a song with Coldplay”

Have you ever walked in the shadow of a giant
Not only your client, the prez y ditto, Hola Hovito
The game getting foul so here’s a free throw
I was always on the other side of the peephole
Then I dropped “Jesus Walks” now I’m on a steep hole
And we know, New Jack City gotta keep my brother
But to be No.1 I’m gon’ beat my brother
On that “Diamonds Remix,” I swore I spazzed
Then my big brother came and kicked my ass
Sibling rivalry only I can see
It was the pride in me that was driving me
At the Grammys I said, “I inspire me
But my big brother who I always tried to be
When I kick a flow it was like pick and roll
Cuz even if he gave me the ROC it was give and go
I guess Beanie’s style was more like a slam dunk
And my sh*t was more like a finger roll
But I had them singles though
And them hoes at the show, go on mingle yo
I told Jay I did a song with Coldplay
Next thing I know he got a song with Coldplay
Back in my mind I’m like, “Damn, no way”
Translate Español ‘No way José
Then I went and told Jay Brown
Shoulda known that that was gon’ come back around
Shoulda talked to you like a man — Shouldatold you first
But I told somebody else and that’s what made sh*t worse

My big brother was BIG’s brother

So here’s a few words from your kid brother:
If you admire somebody then go ahead and tell ‘em
People never get the flowers while they can still smell ‘em
An idol in my eyes, god of the game,
Heart of the city, Roc-a-Fella chain
Never be the same, Never be another,
No. 1 Young Hov, Also my big brother

“You was better as a drug dealer”

“Your live show was hollow
You shoulda kept it local
Rapping over vocals
Sounding soft as Jojo
With 12 monkeys on stage it’s hard to see who’s a gorilla
You was better as a drug dealer
Feel the passion of this b-boy rationale…
Guess it’s time for you to stop cashing out
It’s overflown, tell your guys to put the glasses down”

I’m just saying…

Rap music is something ain’t it
The way these pictures is painted
You swear these n***as was dangerous
The gangsta sh*t they be saying
Lock em up in the booth with a half an ounce of that cannabis
Sit back, and watch the outlandish sh*t they portraying
But, soon as you see ‘em they freeze up like in museums
Them statues, you like “Is that the dude that said he was gonna—”(sound effect)
N***as be running before you finish the sentence
And then they back to reefin’ when they off to the safe distance
You like, “you was just here, but you disappear like magicians in thin air”
I’m like, “Damn n***a please keep it consistent”
I hear you baiting me lately
I’ve been doing my best just to stay hater-free
Still, watch what you say to me
Sooner or later, I’ll take you up on your offer
And put you all in your place
Like I’m replacing your father
You talking to the author, the architect of The Blueprint
My DNA in your music
M****f***a you stupid
