Throwback Classic – DJ Kid Capri’s 10/9/89 Mixtape

capri

Man, this one’s special. I’m talking first in line for a new pair Air Jordan I on launch date special. A friend passed it on to me and I’m now passing it on to you. I don’t need to tell you how great Kid Capri’s dj’ing and mixing skills are. I’ll just let his 10/9/89 mixtape do the talking.

Ego Trip’s Book of Rap Lists named Capri’s 10/9/89 mixtape the 4th greatest hip-hop mixtape of all time, noting the nostalgic power of its intro: The intro to this tape was massive: Stephanie Mills’ “Something in The Way You Make Me Feel” with The Honey Drippers “Impeach The President” underneath. If you walked down 125th Street at that time, all along the street people were outdoors selling tapes and that intro is all you would hear. People would just rewind it.

Everyone raves about the Stephanie Mills “Something in the Way You Make Me Feel” x the Honey Drippers “Impeach the President” blend, but the entire mixtape bangs. Download it below.

Weezy Comically Compares Himself to ‘Pac and Biggie

weezy f baby

Download – Lil Wayne (Ft. Baby) – No Ceilings

Typical Wayne bragfest here, but that’s not the bad news. Good thing the beat bangs or “No Ceilings” would be flat out unlistenable. The only thing thumping louder than this beat is the sound of Weezy’s fist on his own chest. He touts his resume and proceeds to make a premature comparison to ‘Pac and Biggie.

“On the mic I’m like ‘Pac, I’m like B.I., nigga. Whoever don’t agree, come and see, my nigga.”

Well, I strongly disagree, my nigga. Those guys have at least 4 timeless albums between them, my nigga. You’re 10 years in the game with nary a masterpiece on your resume, after 6 tries, my nigga. Those guys made songs so compelling that an average hip-hop fan can proudly recite them from end to end. If I tried reciting one of your songs, people will probably ask me if I know any songs in English. And let’s not forget the obvious: comparing yourself to ‘Pac and Big isn’t very original. Daddy already beat you to the punch.

Download – Ludacris (Featuring Jennifer Hudson) – Hear My Cry

We haven’t heard from Chris in a minute. Then he drops this tearjerker on us with J-Hud riding shotgun. Sir Bridges, please go back to the lab and don’t come out until you’ve cooked up one of those songs that makes me want to punch the wall.

J Cole – Unabomber [mp3]

J. Cole continues to impress. I just hope his enthusiasm doesn’t fizzle out by the time he’s finally ready to drop an album in 2020. The Warm Up remains one of the best mixtapes of 2009.
