The BET Awards went down last night. BET switched plans at the 11th hour to make the entire evening a tribute to Michael Jackson, either because they love him so much or because it was a shoo-in for ratings. Some artists came through, despite the short notice. Others simply phoned it in. BET CEO Debra Lee described the show as the “perfect tribute” and host Jamie Foxx, who was clearly inebriated, dubbed it “fantastic.” If Michael Jackson was still alive, he would’ve definitely moon-walked and hee-hee’d all over the entire show.

Jay-Z added a Drake shoutout (”I might send this to Drake and Weezy) to his “Death of Auto-Tune” performance.

For some reason, Clinton and her supporters deem it fashionable to sling mud at Barack Obama when they should be outlining their vision for this country. Here’s what BET co-founder and Hillary supporter Bob Johnson had to say about Obama at a Clinton campaign rally in South Carolina:

“And to me, as an African-American, I am frankly insulted that the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood –­- and I won’t say what he was doing, but he said it in the book -–­ when they have been involved.”

Johnson is saying two things here that deserve some attention: 1) He assumes that Black people are indebted to the Clintons because of what Bill did for minorities when he was president; 2) Obama was busy smoking weed on the block while Bill was fighting for Black people. It’s official. BET Hip-Hop Awards returns to Atanta for the second time in a row. The event will be hosted by Katt Williams again. And, T.I. is top nominee (9!) once more. Not to mention that they somehow managed to fill up the Hip-Hop Dance category for 07. Either hip-hop lives in the south or BET is allergic to change. Wait till Pimp C finds out.
