Here’s a clip of David Banner and Officer Rick Ross from The Fence documentary. Some Christian filmmakers cornered Ross and Banner to press them on their views of Jesus and hip-hop. Naturally, Ross choked halfway into the conversation and ran to the more eloquent David Banner for help. This is too funny.
Hot damn hoe, here we go again defending black folks who do indefensibly dumb things. Even as black males face racial profiling, DWB, an ambivalent justice system, and other forms of discrimination, it’s also necessary to address whatever prompts a person of Tip’s caliber to amass a vast lineup of weapons when he could’ve easily hired a goon squad. And that’s a hard admission to make, not just because I’m black and would rather not air our dirty laundry, but because chanting “Free T.I.P.” without tackling any real issues leads us nowhere.
Tip is cool and all, but I’d rather hear a song about 17-year old freedom fighter Bobby Hutton, who was shot 12 times in an unarmed gun battle with Oakland police.
A couple more songs from Banner’s upcoming CD Greatest Story Ever Told:
