After being informed by his weed carriers that Premier thinks his beat selection is shitty, your favorite gangsta rapper Nas decided to brag about doing a song for Dr. Dre’s mysterious album, Detox. He then proceeded to crown Dre (not DJ Premier) as the greatest producer of all time.
“I did a joint. I think it’s crazy,” Nas says of his potential contribution to Detox. “[Dr. Dre's] someone I’d love to do a whole album with one day. He’s incredible. I think he’s the best producer of all time.” [HipHopDX]
Hey Nas, Primo is the greatest producer of all time. Clearly, this is written in the dictionary.
Here’s Premier thinking out loud about two of the MCs he helped propel into East-Coast rapdom in the 90s with his unparalleled musical guidance. Turns out Preem made a beat for American Gangster, but Jay wasn’t feeling it. “If you ain’t gonna use it,” says Premo in the video (above), “just call me and say ‘Preem, this ain’t it.’” He goes on to say — and this is the interesting part — that he wishes Nas could do another album with the original team: Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip.
DJ Premier produced a song called “MVP” on Luda’s 6th album, Theater of the Mind. This video captures Premo working his musical magic. He also takes time out to name some of the MCs in his Top 20 and Luda makes the list somehow.
