Drake is “Successful” Because of Payola?

Boo Boo seems to be in agreement with Nahshon when it comes to Drizzy Drake.

In fact, Curtis blatantly attributes Drake’s buzz to payola:

“When you hear a song on the radio it means it’s being worked,” he explained. “Ain’t nothing there just because, enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he’s on a label. You know I’m sure Sylvia Rhone or Universal — they’re spending money to get the record played. They got the public feeling like its just happening.”

In somewhat related WTF news, Wale compares Drake to Zach Morris.

Nahshon Interviews Milk Dee of Audio Two

Here’s a late update from the west coast. I got a chance to talk to Milk from the Audio Two (If you’re not old enough to rent a car, just Google it) and I couldn’t resist putting it on speaker and breaking out the recorder.

If you don’t have 12 minutes, here’s what you’re gonna miss:

  • What he’s working on now
  • Who he’s listening to
  • His take on white rappers
  • He sings the hook to a Drake song because I acted like I didn’t know what he was talking about
  • His view on how the game has changed
  • His opinion on the Charles Hamilton fiasco involving J. Dilla

Mary J Blige Wilds Out on Radio

And by “wild out” I mean Mary actually said whatever the fuck she wanted to say about Auto-Tune, Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.,” Drake’s buzz, etc. It’s sad when you have to go to a “special” radio station to speak openly without fear of censorship, because the FCC has people believing that some 10-year old kid may be exposed to cuss words. Meanwhile, the same 10-year old can easily hop on the Internet and consume as much explicit content as he wants.

Mah’Ko 37 Sheds Light on “Appel Ă  l’ordre”

stereoappelordre

Jay-Z set out to obliterate the overuse of “Auto-Tune” in hip-hop with “Death of Auto-Tune,” but he may have accidentally rekindled the fire in an unknown producer’s belly. No, I’m not talking about No I.D. Mah’Ko 37 is the French producer who sampled Janko Nilovic’s “In the Space” for a song titled “Appel Ă  l’ordre.” No I.D. would go on to freak the same sample on Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” Mah’Ko says that the No I.D. concoction has rekindled his desire to create music once again. I reached out to MHK 37 to get his thoughts on the song and he had some interesting things to say about the music industry from the perspective of a non-American artist. Dive in, it’s sweet.

Apparently, Suge Knight Is Still Around

Here’s Suge Knight aka Winnie the Pooh talking about the rap game and whatnot. I like that when he’s asked about the new rappers he’s checking out right now, he names Lil Wayne. This makes sense because Wayne launched his solo career in 1999, which was around the time Suge Knight stopped being relevant.
