With the release of Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, the internet and the streets have been asking the same question over and over again – is Jay-Z too old to be rapping? This isn’t a new question at all in hip-hop. Whenever someone that’s deemed to be old school (LL Cool J, any of the WuTang Clan members, Rakim, etc.) releases a new project, the hip-hop community always tends to pit them against new, younger rappers. While determining whether or not an older rapper is still relevant and still has their chops is still a valid question to debate, I wonder why our community isn’t looking more at the rapper’s skills and chooses instead to look at their age. For the uninitiated, Van Jones was forced to relinquish his position as Obama’s green jobs czar after Glenn Beck and his ilk did an excellent job of painting Jones as a communist, anti-American racist member of the 9/11 Truthers movement. Regardless of your stance on the Van Jones controversy, you can’t deny that Jasiri’s flow is nasty.

A producer from All Things Harlem visited a Target store on 225th St., in New York City and made an interesting discovery. In the beverage aisle he found a brand of soda with a black girl eating watermelon on a can. He took to Target’s parking lot to poll customers, but not before showing them Picaninny caricature images. Alchemist and Evidence weigh in on the ongoing debate about health care reform.

You may recall that Jay-Z hauled some throwaway jabs at right-wing numbnuts Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly on “Off That.” He also gave Joe Budden a love tap on “Reminder.” Of all three victims of Jay’s lyrical assault, Joey was the one who opted for the high road, saying he wasn’t going to respond. Never mind that he’s been dissing Jay non-stop for years (even on the Slaughterhouse album). Anyway, both Limbaugh and Bill-O took bit the bait and gave Jay some publicity on their respective shows. Limbaugh’s response below:

“I would remind the rapper Jay-Z…Mr. Z, it is President Obama who wants mandated circumcision. If we need to save our penises from anybody, it’s Obama. I did not know I was on anybody’s balls either! I’m happy to know that they think I am, though.”
