Donny Goines - “Wordplay”
Producer: DJ Static

DJ Static and Donny Goines are a match made in hip-hop heaven. Static supplies Goines with a platform to flaunt his versatility, as DG switches up his flow whenever the beat changes.

Says Donny Goines about “Wordplay”: “This song has become one of my favorites and it’s strictly for the people who love innovative and creative rap.”

I have to say, that earth-shattering bassline almost gave me a headache. And I don’t mean that in a bad way.

An MC I Care About Today: Shad

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

“I Don’t Really Like To,” from Shad’s The Old Prince LP

Ever since I stumbled on Shad’s music online, I’ve been telling everyone who cares to listen about this dude. You know how rappers always say they’re doing this for fun? Shad (short for Shadrach Kabango) exemplifies that 100%.

“Aw G, now you got me cocky
Cats say you the illest
I’m like ‘Nah B, nah B, nah B…’
Well OK, probably but that’s just only
’cause I rap like it’s my hobby
Not a jobby job, all sloppy and off key”

From the abundance of self-deprecating lines to the way he loosely spews each rhyme like it’s a freestyle, Shad sounds like he’s truly savoring every moment.

Nas - Nas Will Prevail

Nas - Life’s a Bitch Freestyle (f/ AZ)

How about two pre-Illmatic Nas joints to jumpstart your week? I’m an admitted Nas disciple and I’ve never heard that “Life’s a Bitch” freestyle. You can tell he was high outta his mind on that freestyle. He goes in on “Nas Will Prevail” though, which was actually the demo version of what we would come to know as “It Ain’t Hard to Tell.”

This is a test post.

(If you copped Fireside Cuts you should already have this song anyway.) I’ve been having issues with Wordpress all morning.

Stay tuned…
