Man, this one’s special. I’m talking first in line for a new pair Air Jordan I on launch date special. A friend passed it on to me and I’m now passing it on to you. I don’t need to tell you how great Kid Capri’s dj’ing and mixing skills are. I’ll just let his 10/9/89 mixtape do the talking.
Ego Trip’s Book of Rap Lists named Capri’s 10/9/89 mixtape the 4th greatest hip-hop mixtape of all time, noting the nostalgic power of its intro: The intro to this tape was massive: Stephanie Mills’ “Something in The Way You Make Me Feel” with The Honey Drippers “Impeach The President” underneath. If you walked down 125th Street at that time, all along the street people were outdoors selling tapes and that intro is all you would hear. People would just rewind it.
Everyone raves about the Stephanie Mills “Something in the Way You Make Me Feel” x the Honey Drippers “Impeach the President” blend, but the entire mixtape bangs. Download it below.
Atlanta-based rapper J. Nolan has just released his 3rd independent mixtape. Rappers take note: this is what a lyrical progression looks like. His last project was pretty impressive but he keeps moving at this pace, this will not be the last time you hear of him. If you need convincing, here’s a little sample of what you’ll find when you pop the lid on Resilience.

It’s no longer news that Dr. Dre and the Legion of Procrastinators at Interscope have unintentionally turned Detox into a cultural myth. But if you’re starving for some D-R-E- chronic you’ll be pleased to know that TRU’s own J to the AAP has compiled his own make-believe Detox EP as a holdover until whenever hip-hop overlord Dre deems Detox fit enough for human consumption.
