If I only get one post each year to plug a mixtape that nobody else probably gives two shits about, it has to be Fear and Loathing in Hunts Vegas. Nothing but trunk-rattling beats and catchy hooks on this hurr mixtape. I’ve been bumping this bad boy for 2 weeks straight and it’s still as refreshing as ever. A couple of songs are skippable, but the production is damn near flawless. Diplo, who scored an Album of the Year Grammy nod for his work on M.I.A.’s album, is on top of his game here. At a pay what you want price, Fear and Loathing in Hunts Vegas makes for a great stocking stuffer.

I’ve been avoiding Charles Hamilton’s Sonic the Hamilton mixtape like a leper, and after reading Xplosive’s scathing synopsis of the mixtape I’m still not interested in it.
Peep game:
The conclusion I’ve drawn after listening to Sonic the Hamilton is that the hipster rap movement is nothing more than recycling of what we called backpack rap until about a month ago. The same people have traded in their backpacks and Ecko hoodies for Louis Vuitton man-purses and designer brand flannel.

Ah, finally. The much-delayed Bar Exam 2 has arrived. The first Bar Exam, hosted by the legendary DJ Premier, was brilliant from intro to outro. I still play it every now and then. I haven’t heard this one in its entirety, but my expectations are higher than a satellite right now.
