Mos Def – Casa Bey [mp3]
Behold a new single from senior citizen rapper Mos Def, who’s been spending more time talking greasy about Weezy and Jigga than plugging his new album, due out June 9. Eskay wonders if he’s taking shots at Bey with his Twitter account, @MrBey. Hmmm…I wonder if he’s simply trying to drum up some publicity for The Ecstatic.
Mos is great, but the less said about “Casa Bey” the better. I can’t believe I paused D-Sides to listen to this schizophrenic mess. It would be nice to see him recapture the mojo that made Black on Both Sides a mastercraft, but I’m no longer holding my breath.
Here’s Mos Def with another cute poem. It’s actually a roundabout way of saying that you should buy his upcoming album, The Ecstatic, due out this Spring. The poem is so cute, in fact, that I went through the pain of typing it up. It’s exactly 111 words, which is probably a secret binary message to the Illuminati. Jump in for the lyrics.
If this doesn’t get you excited about The Ecstatic, please check your pulse.
Mos Def – “Brooklyn (Go Hard)”
Here’s Mos Def rhyming about UFOS and space aliens over Jay-Z’s “Brooklyn (Go Hard).” After more than a decade of pummeling beats into submission, Mighty Mos shows no sign of fatigue. It should be illegal for anyone to be this dope for this long. Someone test this guy for HGH — Hiphop Growth Hormone.

What Mos Def’s last 2 albums did to listeners
Tom Minogue of the Collegiate Times supposedly heard Most Def’s eagerly awaited 4th solo album, The Ecstatic (due May 19). Lucky bastard! His review is adorned with all kinds of hyperbole, which indicates that he was jumping up and down ecstatically as he wrote it. In a nut shell, he describes The Ecstatic as “an easy-to-absorb, excellent-to-listen-to venture of the orchestrated word” and a sign that hip-hop is “is alive and kicking.” Of course, if any of this is true it calls for a bottle of Ace of Spades. Because let’s face it, if Dante Smith can’t make a decent album then hip-hop might as well be in the crater. Here’s Minogue’s glowing review of The Ecstatic.
