Masters Of War: The Roots Pay Tribute to Bob Dylan

Bob & The Roots

Earlier this evening I was listening to Bob Dylan’s Masters Of War and I couldn’t shake the feeling I heard an amazing cover of it a few years back but didn’t remember where, when and most importantly, who did it.

J. Nolan – Resiliance (Mixtape)

nolanAtlanta-based rapper J. Nolan has just released his 3rd independent mixtape. Rappers take note: this is what a lyrical progression looks like.  His last project was pretty impressive but he keeps moving at this pace, this will not be the last time you hear of him. If you need convincing, here’s a little sample of what you’ll find when you pop the lid on Resilience.

Listen to:  Thrill is Gone produced by Ben Styles

Raekwon – House Of Flying Daggers

raekwon-onlybuilt4cubanlinxiicover

Raekwon ft. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Kilalh & Method Man – House Of Flying Daggers (produced by J Dilla)

This is what y’all waited to hear! Supposedly the opening track to OB4CLII, Funkmaster Flex debuted this on the radio last night. For now a radio rip will have to do but you know we’ll hit you with the studio version ASAP. Rae goes in alongside some Ghost, Deck & Meth over a Dilla production set off by some vintage kung fu samples. Somebody get they Marty McFly on and get me a copy already, waiting on september 8th takes too long.

Asher “Asleep In The Bread Aisle” Roth – “D.O.A.” (Remix)

Asher Roth Rothin' It.

Everyone’s second favorite college dropout’s camp released this tasty “D.O.A.” remix yesterday. Roth does what he does best, goofy off-kilter references that make you chuckle. My only question is why does this kid continue to rap better on singles he releases than on the album he put out?

Click here to listen/download Asher Roth’s “D.O.A.” remix.

[Props to 2DopeBoyz for the heads-up on the single.]

Bun B feat. Talib Kweli & Colin Munroe – “Don’t Die”

The Bun

Rap icons Bun B and Talib Kweli invite newcomer Colin Munroe onto “Don’t Die,” an eclectic track produced by Beatnick and K- Salaam.  Bun’s dominant voice anchors the first half of the track but Kweli holds down the strongest verse.

Ring the Alarm: New Kanye feat. John Mayer!

::Image courtesy of vybrantricky::

He dropped a verse on Def Poetry back in the day. He circulated a snippet to tease us back in 2005.
But now, the track has been released in it’s entirety. ‘Ye is officially 3 for 3 as is T.R.U. for keeping their ears to the streets (well, in this case, the internet). ;-D

Enjoy and discuss!

Joe Budden – Green Lantern Freestyle

Joe Budden – Green Lantern Freestyle
Joey stopped by Green Lantern’s studio Monday night and discussed everything from Gloria Velez to Mood Muzik 3. He also shares my opinion that Lil’ Wayne is as overrated as it gets. (Hi, haters.)

Anyhow, the highlight of the whole show was Budden’s leave-your-shoes-at-the-door “freestyle.” It’s by far the best radio drop of 2007…so far.

(In the words of the DJ, “shout out to Young Legend.”)

Timbaland to Scott Storch: "Kill Yourself"

Timbaland ft. Sebastian & Attitude – “Kill Yourself”
The much buzzed-about feud between supa dupa producer Timbaland and Dre’s in-house sound architect Scott Storch enters its 2nd round with Tim landing another subliminal…*Yawn*

“Kill Yourself” is actually an upgrade from “Give it to Me” but that’s not saying much. Since Timbo’s too busy making beats that “sound like boom boom boom” to write 3 verses, he called up two of his weed carriers–Sebastian and Attitude.

(Head over to Spinemagazine.com for “Miscommunication,” another joint from Timbaland Presents Shock Value.)
