Murs - “Can It Be” Music Video

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

As “Can It Be” exemplifies, Murs’ album is filled with utilitarian solutions, not daydreamed ideals, about hip-hop and life in general. And I love it.

Murs - “Time Is Now” (Feat. Snoop Dogg & LeToya Williams)
Produced by: Niggerachi
Album: Murs for President (9/30/08)

Murs enlists the support of some powerful allies on the latest jawn from Murs for President, courtesy of my good friends at IllRoots. It features Murs’ fellow West Coast wordsmith Snoop D-O-Double-G and LeToya Williams. By all indications, Murs for President is shaping up to be a brilliant album.

Murs for President Artwork and Tracklist

It just dawned on me that Murs has been running for President since January. His campaign has gathered more momentum along the way, thanks to a few bangers and an endorsement from DJ Quik.

Before you decide whether or not to cast your vote for Murs on September 30th, consult his policy proposals and the prominent figures who cosigned them below.

Man, it would be hilarious if Murs actually ran for president. He would be a historic candidate on so many levels: first rapper president, the first with dreadlocks, etc.

Murs - “Can It Be?”

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Sometimes it’s necessary to step back from a work of art and observe it from a distance in order to offer the best possible creative criticism. That’s exactly what Murs has done here. He took time off from rap and observed the game from a distance.

It translates into sharp, informed criticism of the hip-hop culture he loves so much on “Can It Be?” I also like the fact that he’s not simply whining about it, he’s doing something about it — offering his own skills as the cure to wackness.

“Can It Be?” is the first single from Murs for President, out September 30th.

Murs & 9th Wonder - Sweet Lord (Free)

Murs and 9th Wonder have decided to bless fans with their latest collaboration, Sweet Lord, at no cost.

Murs says the album was recorded 2 years ago, so I’m guessing these are leftovers from Murray’s Revenge.

Murs urges people to buy his new solo album, Murs for President, when it officially drops on September 30th. I’m a big Murs fan, so I’m definitely picking up a copy. But I wonder how many people will still like him enough between now and Sept. 30th to actually go out and buy a copy. Especially when he’s calling people names like “mooch” and “thief.” LOL.

Thanks to J for the midnight tip.
